Two years ago the Beijing auto show was just starting to become a big player on the world scene. Now there's no doubt about it, the 2012 Beijing Auto Show is a big deal and there are plenty of top-notch debuts planned to back that up.
This year, much of the talk will center around the Lamborghini SUV that's expected to make its world debut in Beijing. Any time Lamborghini does something new it's a big deal, but an SUV would be a major departure for the sports car maker. Another hot SUV by a sports car maker will arrive in the form of the Porsche Cayenne GTS, while Jeep will show off a concept version of its Wrangler SUV.
There will be cars, too, of course. BMW will show off a long-wheelbase version of its latest 3 Series sedan, while Honda will have a hatchback concept and a sedan concept specifically tailored to the Chinese market. Chrysler will have a sedan concept as well, based on its 300. There won't be any concepts from Ford; instead it will show off several production cars headed for the Chinese market and based on the Focus platform. In addition to the brands you know, there will be plenty of home-grown products from the likes of BYD, Chery and Geely, which will make for a very interesting show to close out the spring auto show season.
