I have some half-good news. I have a 2001 TT roadster, bought new, and the cluster failed under warranty and was replaced in 2002. The new cluster had the temp gauge off by one from the get go: when the car is started, instead of starting from the far left, it started one notch from the far left. But back in 2002 after driving Mercedes for the 12 years prior (a 1990 300E & a 1998 CLK 320), my Mom decided she HAD to have an AWD car. At the time the A6 was the only game in town. Big8pe, Congratulations on your decision to puchase the TT. I wish you the best of luck. They are good cars, and like any other, wear and tear will occur. Just service the car by the book and you should not have a problem. I plan on keeping mine indefinitely and making it a project car. floridacarwiz, thanks. I've agreed to purchase the car contingent on a mechanic's inspection. Car was in excellent condition and well-cared for. Guy has all maintenance records and has already replaced instrument cluster. My one concern is the timing belt. I cannot seem to get a straight answer either from him or dealership. The cluster went out a couple of times on my 2002 1.8 turbo all wheel drive. It always came back after I fiddled witht the fuses although never in direct response to my fiddling. Then about a month ago it went out in a big way, no tach, speedo, fuel or temp. I purchased my '02 Audi TT in 2005 and it had 12,000 miles on it and all of the maintenance was kept up religiously. I have continued to take it in for its regular service. I go to take it in for service at 65k miles and they want to change the timing belt. They also want to change some other things like the alternater "while they are in there". I periodically check the Audi TT blogs/forums regarding this timing belt issue. I have a 2000 Audi TT coupe that I purchased in 2003 with 32,000 miles on it. My timing belt broke in June 2006 on my drive from Los Angeles to Houston, TX at 83,000 miles. So, it cost $6139.58 to rebuild my engine, and the car still intermittently hesitates! All I can say is that I am disgusted. This thing better run forever now. My maintenance book clearly states that the belt should be replaced at 105K miles. I don't care what anyone says or what anyone knows, if that is not accurate Audi needs to inform its customers or take responsibility. ... Read More...

OMG! I am soooo sick to my stomach. I live in NY and was at a training session in Enfield CT. I got in my car to go home, it started, I backed it out, it stalled and never started again. I had no idea it was the timing belt, we thought it was the battery so we must have cranked the engine dozens of times. Hello. I own a 2001 TT, 180 hp roadster. Have had to replace the instrument cluster in 2002 and now in 2007 it is acting up again. The fuel gauge does not correspond to actual quantity. Audi USA has refused to address this issue. The dealer offered to pay for half. This is not a solution. Thankfully my extended guarantee coverage does include this expensive repair. ... Read More...
