Re: 2002 TT Timing Belt [klboven]
Written by: dallas7 on Apr 23, 2008 12:26:14 PM
I purchased my '02 Audi TT in 2005 and it had 12,000 miles on it and all of the maintenance was kept up religiously. I have continued to take it in for its regular service. I go to take it in for service at 65k miles and they want to change the timing belt. They also want to change some other things like the alternater "while they are in there". After ... Read More

I periodically check the Audi TT blogs/forums regarding this timing belt issue. I have a 2000 Audi TT coupe that I purchased in 2003 with 32,000 miles on it. My timing belt broke in June 2006 on my drive from Los Angeles to Houston, TX at 83,000 miles. All of the car's maintenance since I purchased it used in 2003 was performed by the Audi Downtown Los Angeles dealership, even the ... Read More

2002 TT Timing Belt
Written by: bluecuervo on Dec 15, 2007 9:12:23 PM
So, it cost $6139.58 to rebuild my engine, and the car still intermittently hesitates! All I can say is that I am disgusted. This thing better run forever now. My maintenance book clearly states that the belt should be replaced at 105K miles. I don't care what anyone says or what anyone knows, if that is not accurate Audi needs to inform its customers or take responsibility. Why the hell does ... Read More

2002 TT Timing Belt
Written by: bluecuervo on Nov 16, 2007 6:38:55 PM
OMG! I am soooo sick to my stomach. I live in NY and was at a training session in Enfield CT. I got in my car to go home, it started, I backed it out, it stalled and never started again. I had no idea it was the timing belt, we thought it was the battery so we must have cranked the engine dozens of times. Needless to say, my car ... Read More

Text of Sunday NY Times article on VW/Audi/Coil Pack

Rather than just rehash the known facts of this fiasco, Ms. Jensen has shown that VW has committed the clissic bungled PR. February 2, 2003 A Black Eye for VW and Audi By CHERYL JENSEN WIDESPREAD failures of a crucial engine component have left owners of 2001 and 2002 Volkswagens and Audis stranded and stewing while the companies scramble for replacement parts. RE: To buy or not to buy
Written by: brucewg on Aug 10, 2002 11:28:30 AM
I recently purchased a 2002 coupe, 180FWD, so you'll know in advance where I'm coming from. I was looking for a comfortable car that I would enjoy driving, not necessarily the "ultimate" sports car, and the TT fits my expectations very nicely. From my research I would say that the majority of issues with the TT were on the 2000's, some on the 2001's, and the 2002's have been very reliable. ... Read More

To Buy Or Not To Buy

I'm seriously considering the purchase of a 2002 Audi TT Coupe, 180 HP FWD (possibly the AWD) but I'm hesitant based on some owner-feedback. Granted, once you spend upwards of 30K on vehicle, you'll probably defend it with your life (kinda like buying a Macintosh, which I have and will continue to do, regardless of the inflated prices and slower processors) which is why it's hard to get an un-biased opinion. ... While we are on the subject of tires...I have a 2002 TT 180FWD Roadster. I have the 17 inch high performance tire. I also live in the NE. All the Audi marketing material say not to use these tires in cold weather, ice or snow. Although the snows of the last few years have been few I am concerned about driving with these tires in the NE winter. Do any of ... Read More

Radio Question

I'd be grateful for any suggestions to this: I bought a new 2001 TT Roadster earlier this year. It has the upgraded Bose system, with a 6-disc changer, and a casette in the dash radio. I've been told by Audi (dealers and Audi cust service) that I can't replace the radio with a CD in the dash without screwing up the Bose system. Do any of you know of a way ... Read More

If that wasn't bad enough, the Volkswagen group finished dead last in JD Power's 2002 Initial Quality survey of the major automakers: http://www.detnews.com/2002/autosinsider/0206/03/b01-502833.htm And the Euro has appreciated 20% vs. the dollar in the past few months. Audi TT versus BMW 323 convertible

I had my heart set on a 323 BMW convertible, 2000, 5 speed, but I'm having trouble finding the one I want. The Audi TT is looking like a nice alternative. Does anyone have direct experience in comparing these two cars? I would be interested in a 2001 Audi TT, I don't need a 2002.Thanks for your responses.

Making the Deal...
Written by: lkaten on Aug 9, 2001 9:03:27 AM
I'm just wondering if anyone has advice on whether to use CarsDirect.com or go directly to Audi. Would there be any advantage, such as a more negotiable price, in dealing directly with Audi on the TT? Or...is it just more hassle? Also, does anybody have news on when the 2002 TT's are arriving? Thanks

From what I heard, Audi is planning to add more engine options to the TT line-up but I am not sure if they'll be available in the 2002 model or would they even come to the US! As for building a garage, it would be a rather costly proposition based on where I live (San Franciso Bay Area). Thanks all for the info, I'm just going to spend $231 and get ... Read More
