Hi. I have an audi TT which i purchased in December 2008. It is a 2000 audi tt 225. In my booklet it says that my TT was bought in August 2000 with the first owners details. When I put in a new battery last year, the cluster reset to August 2001. Does this mean my cluster was also replaced in 2001?
From Green Welling, LLP: AUDI TT Instrument Cluster Settlement – Court granted approval of a nationwide settlement for Audi TTs (model years 2000 - 2004, and certain 2005 models) alleged to have defective instrument clusters. The settlement provides three types of relief to class members, including a 2 year extension of the existing warranty, free repairs or replacements of defective instrument clusters, and full reimbursement of qualified, out pocket expenses incurred ... I can tell you what it ISN'T. Im working on a 2000 Audi TT Quattro 1.8T. Not my speed, but it is a cool car, and the customer loves it. -I put a oil pump in it. I dissassembled the old one, didn't find ANY wear on it. In great shape. -While I was at it I put a pick up in it too. When I took the old one out, ... Read More
Ah, I had a drain in the stereo system of my 2000 TT. Audi was not helpful at all in fixing it - they replace the instrument panel but the problem persisted. I am thinking it was a short in wiring. Tested head unit, tested amplifier, tested CD unit, tested speakers - no dice. Tested amperage at the fuse box - it spiked intermittently high enough to cause a drain of ... Read More
Seems I am having the same problem with our 2000 TT Quatro, did they find out what the problem was with yours? I cannot seem to keep the battery charged!!!! Any info appreciated, thanks

For those of you that have had problems with your instrument cluster going bad and giving you false readings such as the gas gauge not reading correctly, false codes, etc, you are not alone. I had problems too with my gas gauge not reading properly after I bought a used 2001 Audi TT quatro roadster. I bought it in 2004 with 57,000 miles and less than a year later the gas ... Read More

I periodically check the Audi TT blogs/forums regarding this timing belt issue. I have a 2000 Audi TT coupe that I purchased in 2003 with 32,000 miles on it. My timing belt broke in June 2006 on my drive from Los Angeles to Houston, TX at 83,000 miles. All of the car's maintenance since I purchased it used in 2003 was performed by the Audi Downtown Los Angeles dealership, even the ... Read More
Hello. I own a 2001 TT, 180 hp roadster. Have had to replace the instrument cluster in 2002 and now in 2007 it is acting up again. The fuel gauge does not correspond to actual quantity. Audi USA has refused to address this issue. The dealer offered to pay for half. This is not a solution. Thankfully my extended guarantee coverage does include this expensive repair. I suggest anyone with a ... Read More
If you are having a problem with the LCD display not reading correctly or many /most of the lights are not working then you have a bad instrument cluster. Also your speedometer and fuel gauge may be displaying incorrectly. Typically Audi has refused to replace these units if the vehicle is out of warranty. However in the UK they recalled all TTs from 2000-2003. If you go to the dealer and ... Read More

I'm also having problems with my 2000 TT's instrument cluster. The tachometer is stuck at 2 when the car is off, and shows higher RPMs than the car is actually doing when moving. The dealership says I need to replace the cluster. My extended warranty says they won't replace it because the tachometer is analog, and has nothing to do with the digital module of the panel. Make sure the dealership takes at least 1800-2000 off of the MSRP, and bases the lease on the number you come up with. I am paying a fairly high monthly number...$660 + 4000 down... but I am waiting for a used R8 down the road a bit. I am going against my usual strategy in leasing and putting more down than I normally do. But lately I have been getting bored ... Read More
I paid $25.4K for 2003 with 13K miles 1 week ago from a dealer. Comparing prices in Colorado Springs, it was a great deal. Paid 14K for 201 with 70K miles dec 06. Also a good deal in this market. Sure, someone got one with 10K miles for $2K from a little old lady ... someone wave the BS flag please.
I too just replaced my instrument cluster in my 2000 TT. I did the remove and replace myself with a factory exchange unit from the local dealer at a cost of $516.19. I had an independent audi tech program in the old current mileage for a cost of $60. If you do this make sure you have it reprogramed before you get 60 miles on the new unit as it can't ... Read More
I have a 2000 Audi TT and in general it wasn't too problem some until the Timing Belt snapped at just 49000 miles. This caused all of the engine problems that you guys have described above. Hi all: I've recently started to have a similar electrical drain on my 2000 tt. Since September, if the car sits for more than a day, it won't start... of course I changed the battery, which was original, then moved from NJ to DC. The problem came back right away, especially since I now take public transportation to work more often than not, and so the care is driven less. Suffice ... Read More
I was reading through most Audi TT forums throughout the web (including the world) Man, this meter is full of crap. I just bought a second hand Audi TT, Very very low mileage. 12400km (7450miles) but was a year 2000 model. Owner bought it, hardly drove it, worked overseas. Meter was flashing when I bought it. 2 months later. Meter Kaput-ed on me. First time this happened, was when I just ... Read More
Hi, I own a 2001 TT and have had the same problem that you've encountered. Since my car was under warranty I took it back a week ago and the diagnosis from the Audi Dealer was a power drain due to the instrument cluster and a faulty dimmer switch which flickered and buzzed when I used it. Solution was to replace the whole instrument cluster (electrical), a new dimmer switch and ... Read More
Did you ever find the solution to this problem. I go on business trips of about a week every few months and each time I come back the car is completely dead. I've taken it in three times and each time they say there is no problem with the battery.
I dont know why this isnt covered by a recall, but there is a very big issue with the timing belt on Audi TT's. Once that timing belt snaps, you will need to replace major engine parts costing thousands of dollars. Thats if your whole engine doesnt seize/melt. (Engine Blown) After what I've read about this issue, im going to get this fixed before the belt snaps off, cause once it ... Read More

Ok, I have this hard to diagnose electrical drain. If the car sits for any length of time, like > 2 days the battery is dead. Anyone heard of this? Early on I had problems with ... Read More

Was interested in any opinions on issues with the Neiman Marcus Edition. It has around 7500 miles...low mile car. Might look at a 2001 Quattro also, but the 2000 is more affordable for me.
I bought my Audi assured 2000 TT quattro last weekend and found myself stranded on the freeway this morning on the way to work. The car lost power and eventually died. I have heard of the 03TT having an auto box as option. This is sooo wrong! The TT is Audi's only sports car. A true sports car needs to stay with manual. (though even the Boxster offers the tiptronic system) And will the next gen. TT have less body roll to compete with the Z4, Boxster, and S 2000? TTs Rule!
I recently purchased a 2002 coupe, 180FWD, so you'll know in advance where I'm coming from. I was looking for a comfortable car that I would enjoy driving, not necessarily the "ultimate" sports car, and the TT fits my expectations very nicely. From my research I would say that the majority of issues with the TT were on the 2000's, some on the 2001's, and the 2002's have been very reliable. ... Read More

I had my heart set on a 323 BMW convertible, 2000, 5 speed, but I'm having trouble finding the one I want. The Audi TT is looking like a nice alternative. Does anyone have direct experience in comparing these two cars? I would be interested in a 2001 Audi TT, I don't need a 2002.Thanks for your responses.
