Audi has really cut back on production of the 06-07 S4's models. They made too many 2004/2005 models with the new V8. Audi is trying to keep the S4 more exclusive and special with the new grill & styling.
I am considering purchasing a 2004 Audi S4. I live in Boston and the car is in New York City. A few things I am a little weary of and wondering what to look out for or look in to. The car has 105K on it, and they are asking 13K for it. Now I went and test drove the car and it drove great, very smooth and felt solid. However, ... Read More
Friend of mine wants to sell his 2004 Audi S4. It's been gently/barely driven for the last several years and parked in a heated garage 24/7. Specs: '04 S4 with 28K miles ( silver color, manual transmission, bose, nav, seat warmers etc). Asking price is $14,000. This is a good friend of mine and I know this car well, driven it several times, no known problems except for some light scratches ... Read More
I'm thinking of buying an S4, and I would like to put some mods on it. First, what is the biggest size wheel you can put on this car? Second, where can I look for wheels? I looked at tirerack.com and they don't have anything that I think would look really great on this car. I'm looking for something with 8 to 10 spokes. Second, where would be the best place ... Thanks jmaroun i really appreciate your advice I actually was just kinda iffy on the s4 until i read your reply, then i decided to give it another drive. That thing is SO fast, the engine is really its best attribute. Awesome, awesome engine. It just pulls. The suspension is also really great it feels really stable and the quattro does give it a stable feeling (i know thats a cliche). ... Read More
alright, so I have a 2000 S4 right now. it is in the shop more than im driving it. ive had it for 3 years and spent $7000 on top of what i paid for it just in repairs. I was offered to trade my car for a 2004 A4 1.8t ultrasport. Im stuck in between the both of them. I love my car but am tired of all the repair ... Read More
I'm new to this forum and not a 'technical' person and need some feedback from all you S4 Audi lovers! What follows is a synposis of 'service issues' with my 2004 S4 Cabriolet (manual 6 speed): I purchased the car in Feb. 2006. It is a 2004 and had 13700 km's (or roughly 8,200 miles) on it at time of purchase, it now has 19,300 km's or roughly 11,600 miles (it ... Read More
Oil light on my 2004 S4 comes on every 1500miles. I've had it checked for leaks three times by Audi, who refers me to their service bulletin, which says this type of oil burn is not excessive for the S4 engine. I'm still keeping an eye on it, as I suspect this is beyond 2 standard deviations. Ed
Hi all - I need some help in deciding on a 2004 CPO S4 loaded with 20K miles for 40K vs 2005 M3 loaded with 10K for 50K. Any hellp is appreciated. I have kids 11 and 12. I usually drop 1 in morning to school and pick one up in evening at soccer. I want a car with great performance but also practical for my situation. I am only 3 ... Read More
Since you have been responding to my posts, albeit in a slightly immature and disrespectful way, I will respond to your 3 points before I leave this thread altogether. The host really should kill this thread. It's dead anyway, it has been for a while, and while I have tried to post nothing but hard facts by Consumer Reports, I keep getting stupid responses like "I don't know where you get ... Read More
I couldn't have said this better myself. -17% for the BMW vs -46% for the S4. These numbers are light years apart. Well, yeah. Like I said, I'm not out to mislead anyone and that's what Consumer Reports indicated, so that's what I posted. The #'s are not quite as far apart as you may think though. The way CR's scale is set up, if the S4 was 2 percentage points ... Read More
I had a set of dunlop winter sport m2's on my 2000 s4, I just got some m3's on my 2004 s4. Both are great but honestly I think the m2's are better. Also going down one inch in rim size helps as you get a narrower contact patch.
Every S4 I have ever encountered on the open highway NEVER challenged my M3. That has nothing to do with the car and everything to do with the driver, bro. Cars can only go as fast as the driver, not the other way around. If I saw you and your M3 on the open road I'd challenge you, and unless your willing to push it to 150 you wouldn't stand a ... OK let's have a fact-based discussion. Firstly, which consumer report are you talking about? Go to Consumer Reports.org , and look up the BMW 3-series and Audi A4 reports. Granted, the Audi has atrocious reliability through 2001 (it is that reputation which hurts its resale value now ... ) but has shown consistent improvement since the new shape was introduced in 2002. Indeed, in 2003 it received only excellent and very ... Read More
The truth must really hurt about the Audi S4 being inferior to the M3. If you read all of messages on this site you will see that the statements are supported by facts and not biased propaganda. I went to Kelly Blue Book to check the trade in values for the M3 and the S4 and this is what they said: 2001 BMW M3 in excellent condition with 100,000 mi $20,375 ... Read More
From the above Consumer Reports review of the BMW M3 vs the Audi S4 (also Cadillac CTS V, and Pontiac GTO) the M3 was the consumer reports choice: EXHIBIT 2 From Consumers report: Sports CARS: The $50,000, High-performance Audi S4 and BMW M3 top our sports-car ratings, while blending fun and practicality. "I have not seen the interior of the R, but I have a hard time believing that it is a better interior than the S4. If it is, I would love to see it. " .........and to piggy back on the quote above from bellamusica, I know that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, but the Audis interior ARE the benchmark of what a car interior should look like. ... Peter, Hey! I got a brand new 2004 S4 Cab with everything, except the nav system for $50,900. And that was in New York! You should get that car for under 50 thou. PS You'll love it!
Went to the local dealer here in CA and test drove an S4 cab quattro - had 6500 miles on it (2004) - seems great, but never owned an audi. dealer is asking $52,000 but probably could get for flat $50,000. It's a lot of money - Interested if anyone has any strong opinions about that price for that car? Or if it doesn't work out - will I lose a ... Read More
buddhabman: Since the as per the claims of the respective companies (as found in brochures) Subaru introduced AWD wagons in 1971 and Audi in 1980, I guess Subaru was first to market at least! waygrabow: I get the Consumer Reports (along with Automobile and AutoWeek). The 2005 Buying Guide does give the A4 an average reliability rating (therby it is not precluded from being recommended). The Subaru Outback gets an ... Read More
Two days ago, I was told by the sales mgr. of an Audi dealer in South Jersey that, due to the larger than expected demand for 2005 A6's in Germany/Europe (Audi's main markets), (A) deliveries of U.S. spec. A6's would be delayed a bit to late 2004/early 2005 (for the 4.2 V8's) and (B) perhaps more importantly, PRODUCTION OF 2005 S4's WAS BEING CUT BACK BECAUSE THEIR 4.2 ENGINES WERE BEING ... Read More
FWIW, I have tested 2004s of both and (everything else being equal) would take the S4 over the M3 in a heartbeat. 0-60 the M3 wins, but most people are not driving these cars on tracks. The S4 has significantly more low end torque, something I am fond of, handled great, and I felt had better internal appointments than the M3. You can also drive it in the winter. The once ... Certified Pre Owned (which will warrant the expensive bits to 100K miles). Otherwise, if you think you can afford this car without such protection, you would be better and cheaper off with a 2004 S4. These cars, out of warranty, are for the wealthy, the very wealthy. And, I love Audis and have owned almost 30 of them. The chances of something happening to them that will bankrupt you are not ... Does anyone know the debut time of the new S4? or of an auto show in LA where it will be diplayed?
I spoke with my dealer on Thursday -- he says there will be a 2002 S4 in the US -- and that it will be virtually identical in every way to the 2001 S4. Audi is doing the same thing they did with the previous S6 -- they are continuing the body, engine, etc. for a short while because demand for the S4 (as it was in 1995 for the then ... Read More
