rrud, yes Audi of N Scottsdale AZ, did solve the problem. It took a couple attempts and parts in from Germany. Suggest contacting Walter Smith (technician supervisor) for the cure at 480-538-4000 and tell him it was the Sorenson 2004 A8L. It is built off of the A8, but since it is an all steel bodied car it is much heaver than the A8L. The Phaeton is a sort of lumbering car compared to the sportiness of the Audi. I have only had my 05 A8L for a little over two weeks now and I am really impressed with how it drives like a much smaller car. Only pulling into parking spaces does it seem any larger then my 98 GS400. ... Read More...

I have had the same situation with the ignition key on my last two A8's (1999 & 2005). If my engine does not start on the first attempt, I have to remove the key and reinsert. This has been the case since they were new. I have been told, and since it has been the same on two cars now, I believe that this is designed into the car. Perhaps a theft deterrent? 5 grand is a lot of money, but not out of line for a high end car like the A8. Getting in certified at an Audi dealer is usually less money, but I guess the overall deal and purchase price come into play. I'd personally never own an A8 out of warranty. 5k may be peanuts if you ever have an engine or transmission problem. You could be looking @ 10,000-15,000 easily on a German ... Read More...

This forum was helpful in my recent purchase of an Audi A8L. The car currently has 45,500 miles on it. I purchased it for $32,000. The dealer wants to sell me an extended warranty for $4988\ 4 yrs or 50K additional miles. does it make any sense to buy the warranty or should I just invest the money and pay for the repairs myself. You go ..... approaching 70 man ! I'm 71 and gaining. Just made the N Sctsdle to Palm Desert 311 Mi. in 3 hr 20 min. Don't tell. 2004 A8L. Over 20 mpg cruising. Amazing. Getting some tire "cylical" vibration from the 19" Michelin Pilot 255 ZR's. Michelin is covering under warranty. Good people. Drive on ......... and try "geronimo's" restaurant in Santa Fe. Which ... OAC, my fellow car nut, you've hit an all time low. First you gather info on a unreliable German mag from 3 years ago, then secondly you posted something from a mag that is now defunct??? "The A8 when it came out in 2004 may have had hte horsepower advantage, but its still slower than just about every other car on the list." The A8 is slower NOW. It hasn't received the upgrades that the others in it's class has gone through. That said, the '07 with 350hp should correct all of it's "slowness". Audi's super cars have already commanded very primo prices though. The RS6 was more expensive than the last M5, wasnt it? The new RS4 is also BIG bucks. Audi's cars have to outpower their competition if they want to be competitive in terms of actual on road performance. we have been experiencing the same problem with my 2004 A8; we have had a number of instances were we take our foot off the gas and the car accelerates at full throttle. The last time my wife had difficulty stopping the vehicle. The dealer and Audi corporate cannot fix or replicate the problem. Was there any resolution to your problem? Please reply. Read More...
