Overall

RATING

A powerful engine, easy-to-operate controls and elegant styling make the A6 a popular choice for consumers and a favorite among road testers.

DETAILED EDITORS' RATINGS

Dynamics

RATING

The A6 handles impeccably, but the steering feels a bit lifeless. The optional 4.2-liter V8 adds more to price than performance, but Quattro all-wheel drive becomes standard with this engine. An optional S-line performance package tightens up the suspension and drops the ride height slightly.

Comfort

RATING

A smooth and quiet ride, spacious interior, and comfortable seats make the A6 excellent for long distance touring. The S-Line package, however, might tighten up the ride too much for some.

Function

RATING

The interior is very logical and easy to learn. Generous describes the rear seat and trunk. MMI, Audi's menu-based central control system, is easier to use than BMW's i-drive, as some of the more common settings can be accessed with stand-alone controls.

Design/Build Quality

RATING

The Audi corporate styling theme, with its distinctive grille, works well on this scale. The interior is elegant and inviting, with excellent fit, finish and materials throughout.
