The following is my opinion based on my experience with my 2002 Audi, my friend's experience with their Audis and participation on this board (as well as others). If you are a novice mechanic and/or don't know much about Audi's, stay far away from this car. They are just too expensive to repair and the most odd things go wrong with them. The most common appear to be problems with the ... Read More

Crank sensor.... anyone have this problem?
Written by: pokechimp88 on Jun 14, 2010 11:43:26 AM
Hi everyone! We bought a 2004 Audi A6 avant about two years ago with 90K on it. It now has 130K. In the last 5K miles, we have replaced at least 4K in repairs (but they are wear): Timing belt with 12 other components and fluids flush (all of them): $1600 Ignition coil (recall): $0 New brakes and tires $1200 (because the 17" sport tires are huge) And now the crank ... No need to wait for the letter or go to the dealer. Check your Mfg. date of your vehicle, if it's pre-July 2004 it has a timing belt if it's after July 04 then it has a Chain driven Cam ... Read More

2004 Audi Avant Quattro (98,000 mile repairs)
Written by: malpasofilms on Apr 15, 2010 3:50:36 PM
I must be a lucky one. I have a 2004 A6 AVANT Quattro 3.0 Engine. I have only had to replace the Fuel Pump today 4/15/10. Other than that this car runs awesomely. Repairs for the fuel pump today $610.59. I had it repaired at the Audi dealer. It could have been cheaper if I repaired it at an Import repair shop, but I trust Audi to take care of my ... Read More

First and easiest solution: When you say brake light you mean the "Indicator light for brake pads"???? If that's correct, the check the brake pads, warning sensors on the pads for loose or short circuit. The warning beep, I had twice this winter, not sure what it means but I'm going in for service ... If your spending that much on repairs per year, get the equity you still have in that 02_A6 and put it in something more reliable. There have been MANY MANY little running changes/improvements to the C6 since it was brought out in 2004 (2005 MY, US). Here's what I think was meant, and it is relevant only to the 2009 and 2010 MY versions. A6 could be had with a 3.0TFSI (Supercharged) 300HP engine coupled to a revised software (faster, smoother, shifts) 6 speed tiptronic. My perception or comparison, if you like, was from this perspective: I got out of a 2005 Audi C6 A6 which was pretty well loaded and walked over to my new 2009 Audi B8 A4 (about 15 months ago). The switchgear, the steering wheel (although my A6 did not have paddle shifters), the console, the wood, the feel of the leather, the seat's firmness, the instrument cluster, the soft plastic on ... Add what I would call the vital options (technology, cold weather and bling wheels) and the price would climb to a $53+ number. I have an A6 3.2 w/MSRP of $53,286.
