I have a 2004 A6 2.7 S-line with 58k miles. just recently the ABS light will randomly come on, later go off.. the check engine light also has appeared, then gone off.. Audi and another mechanic both told me the ABS light was the left rear wheel speed sensor, which i had someone other than Audi replace. That didnt fix the ABS light from returning. He said it could be the ... Read More
I currently run 19" rims with 245 35 zr19 tires, to points made earlier they aren't the quietest things on earth but definitely provide the performance I'm looking for and a step up from the 225 whatever whatever 16"s that came with it....I really wanted 255's for the 19" rims, we tried (dealer brought them in for me) and they definitely do more than rub....they get stuck. I loved my B5 S4 so much that I ended up buying another 2.7TT in an C5 A6 trim. I love these cars, yes they leak from every seal, yes they blow torque converters in Autos and occasionally chew threw sleeves/synchros in Manuals and the electrical issues may become a nightmare without a VAGCOM. My advice to anyone thinking about buying a used 1998-2004 A6/S4 in 2.7TT: 1. Be mechanically inclined ... Read More
Well, it is very interesting to read about all of these Audi CVT transmission problems happening "just out of warrantly". I bought a 2004 Audi A6 in 2006 with about 27k miles. It seemed like a pretty safe bet to get a low-mileage Audi for under $19k with the balance of the manufacturer's warranty in place. Around 46-48k miles, I noticed a lunge when slowing down and the transmission would seem ... Read More
The following is my opinion based on my experience with my 2002 Audi, my friend's experience with their Audis and participation on this board (as well as others). If you are a novice mechanic and/or don't know much about Audi's, stay far away from this car. They are just too expensive to repair and the most odd things go wrong with them. The most common appear to be problems with the ... Read More
Hi everyone! We bought a 2004 Audi A6 avant about two years ago with 90K on it. It now has 130K. In the last 5K miles, we have replaced at least 4K in repairs (but they are wear): Timing belt with 12 other components and fluids flush (all of them): $1600 Ignition coil (recall): $0 New brakes and tires $1200 (because the 17" sport tires are huge) And now the crank ... I must be a lucky one. I have a 2004 A6 AVANT Quattro 3.0 Engine. I have only had to replace the Fuel Pump today 4/15/10. Other than that this car runs awesomely. Oh No! It's electrical again. Dear Newbie: Don't give up just yet, these are not serious problems. Greetings DWPC, Well I don't see any questions so I guess I'll just say, your doing the right thing. Greetings Mr.Kealbert (Audi Woes), 56k_miles in seven years is not allot of driving. If your spending that much on repairs per year, get the equity you still have in that 02_A6 and put it in something more reliable. There have been MANY MANY little running changes/improvements to the C6 since it was brought out in 2004 (2005 MY, US). Here's what I think was meant, and it is relevant only to the 2009 and 2010 MY versions. A6 could be had with a 3.0TFSI (Supercharged) 300HP engine coupled to a revised software (faster, smoother, shifts) 6 speed tiptronic. The quattro (TorSen) system, remains active, as opposed to reactive, but ... Read More
My perception or comparison, if you like, was from this perspective: I got out of a 2005 Audi C6 A6 which was pretty well loaded and walked over to my new 2009 Audi B8 A4 (about 15 months ago). My 2009 A4 Prestige with Audi Drive Select, 19" sport package, almond wood trim, navigation+rear camera and power rear sunshade is either "about the same" as the outgoing A6 or, for the detail minded, a substantial upgrade in several key areas. First off, the B8 A4 has a 110+" wheelbase -- very very close to the C6 A6. The C6 is a bit wider and from front to rear is longer ... Read More
Happy Motoring: Did I mention early on in our first Info exchange that, in my earlier life, I worked as a service adviser? I'm going to keep this short. A. the Audi (July 2004 or later models) A6 3.2 l Quattro does not have a timing belt, it's chain driven between the Crank and Camshafts. b.As for Oil changes, don't use any oil other than what VW/Audi recommend. In 2004, when I "bought" my A6, the dealership convinced me to buy with a balloon note rather than lease. The numbers worked out slightly better. I had to pay the whole sales tax up front, but I avoided the acquisition and turn in fees. At the time, Audi had a highly subsidized finance rate, and I was able to get it either way. I think you're talking about the Premium Purchase program -- which is what I opted for in 2004. It's definitely a good option, and works very much like a lease, but you have to run the numbers. On the OTHER hand, the 3.0 kompressor engine would NOT require a new body. I assumed that the new A6 would at least move up to 265HP. . . Mark's discussion about a stick in an A6 was for the pre-2004 car. When purchased new the 2005 Audi A6 4.2 cost a few thousand dollars more than the 2005 BMW 530. I agree that coverage of BMW in the auto mags is often silly. Talking about it here might help resolve existenial dliemma (also posted on M forum to see what it catalyzes there) .... Mark … Although I'm not in marketing, about 25 years ago I read a book titled "Positioning". It became a small-time classic and was reissued in a 25th anniversary edition. The basic premise (not radical, just presented with lots of interesting examples) is that a major variable in the success-equation of any product is how well it manages to position itself -- in the collective consciousness of consumers -- among its ... Mark; I agree very much with the sentiment of your posting. At one time I was comparing the ML 350 and Lexus RX 350. I had told the Mercedes salesperson that I was planning to rent an ML 350 for a day from a local upscale rental outfit, to see how I felt about it when I took it through my normal day of city (with lots of hills), highway (ranging ... When Audi first announced the C6 A6's they proclaimed a 0 - 100KPH capability of 7.1 seconds. Fine, I thought, the 3.2 A6 is the replacement for the 3.0 V6 equipped A6. Audi has typically (in the US) had a regular V6 and turbo V6 and since 1999 (MY2000) a V8. The new "3.2" @ 255HP is a bit more potent than the last V6 2.7T (before the SLine Swan Song ... Read More
Two fluids you should not mess with: oil and "anti-freeze" (aka coolant.) Ask the dealer what specific brand(s) they use and what specifically they put in your car at the last change. If they claim they use Audi brand coolant, buy some of THAT specific brand even if it costs a buck or three more than the Pep Boys knock off brand. If they say Mobil1 or Castrol Full Syn or ... Yes, I noted the description of the Audi where the year mentioned was 2004. However, the subject, here on this side of the Atlantic, may now be far more relevant since both Katrina and the recent pump price run up. I received a letter from my representative in Congress yesterday. In the letter -- devoted to the subject of "high gas prices" -- the representative empathized with "my pain at the ... Read More
Could someone help me out with a lease. I've got a car for a trade... a 2004 S4 w/ 47000 miles. Kelly Blue book is for 27,000 trade in, they appraised it at 24,000. I owe 20,000 on my loan. They offered to pay my loan off and give me $700 a month lease rate. The sticker on the A6 is 53,000. 3.2, Premium and technology package, sunroof and cold weather. ... Read More
Dont give up on a car because of a couple of angry owners on a car forum. 90 people gave the M35 an average score of 9.3 out of 10 in the consumer review section. Additionally, in JD power IQ scores, Acura was thoroughly beaten by Infiniti in both 2004 and 2005. The M35 scored just as well as the Lexus GS300 in CR's '05 scores. The '05 RL scores were ... Maybe it would belong in an LP-SAV/SUV board. I have double checked with my dealer. The darn thing with the V8 is $49,900 and that is pretty well decked. Add what I would call the vital options (technology, cold weather and bling wheels) and the price would climb to a $53+ number. I have an A6 3.2 w/MSRP of $53,286. Now, does this mean the 280HP version would be $44,900? Check ... Read More
. . .that is why despite their fight to be in permanent last place in the LPS segment (based on monthly sales units), they can honestly say "what me worry?" Audi of America Reports 2005 Sales of 83,066 - Up by 6.6% - Source AoA. Audi of America has closed 2005 on a high with the best sales month of last year. December sales of 8,842 units were up 15.6 %, ... Read More
Here's the sales stats for the new Audi A6 Thru Nov 2005: 15,740 Thru Nov 2004: 12,096 I think Audi is happy moving another 3,700 A6's over last years totals. The new body style cars are doing quite well. Acura has moved 16,294 RL's so far this year. The RL looks too much like a glorified Honda Accord, and it doesn't have the presence of a $50,000 vehicle IMO. I guess ... Read More
Appropos of our recent discourse on the merits of oil change interval frequencies, I thought that the article below might prove illuminating as regards Audi and Volkswagen engines, and other makes as well. In light of the observations detailed in this article, the wisdom of 10,000 mile oil change intervals continues to evade me. This is particularly true as regards the majority of the so-called "synthetic oils" like Castrol, which in ... Read More
I have come to the conclusion that my luxury/entry luxury sedan must have AWD. Thus, what are your under $33K recommendations, taking into account: luxury, executive presence, value, reliability, style, driving impression, rear seat room, cargo space and residual: 2005 Infiniti G35x 2003 Audi A6 quattro 2003 Mercedes C320 4matic 2003 BMW 330x 2004 Infiniti FX35 Thanks for the responses!
I need a luxury/entry-luxury vehicle for city driving, that is also capable of handling the mountains, all for under $33K. My work requires shuttling executives (luxury/class). My personal life includes being both a single guy in Los Angeles (style) AND spending significant time in the mountains (awd or stability control). Also, the vehicle should make me look older/more executive than my age (early 30’s), without looking pretentious. I will probably finance ... Read More
The monthly sales figures posted here have often found Audi's A6 fighting for last place with Acura's RL. Yet, Audi of America has [again] been able to take their stats and create blurbs such as: "AUBURN HILLS, Mich. –– Audi of America, Inc. reported its best September sales month in history. With sales of 7,854 units, the German luxury brand’s numbers are up 34.6 % over September of 2004. Key drivers ... Read More
The Queen City (not counting Dayton, the Gem City to our north) has one Infiniti Dealer and two Audi Dealers (just to use an example.) Our lone Infiniti dealer is on our "north east" side of town, the two Audi dealers are ... Read More
Hey, I just bought a 2004 A6 wagon with 12,000 miles. Now have 15,000. MPG (mostly Atlanta I-285) is about 20.5. Question; at 70 mph, the engine rpm is 2700. I asked the Audi service rep what it should be and he said "2000 to 2200 rpm". He said he would have to check the torque converter activation while driving at 70 mph to see if there is a problem. The 4.2 is a nice car, and I really like the agressive body work on the 4.2. But in reality, it's not that much faster than the 2.7T twin turbo. But the sweet sound of the 4.2 can't be beat. It's a smart idea to get a 4.2 with the 6/100 CPO from Audi. I'd never fly naked with that car and be out of warranty. Just remember that the gas ... Read More
CPO'd huh? The 4.2 is a very nice driving and riding and performing car. I have had three Audis with this engine. Sweetest sounds in the world come from an Audi V8. Even steven huh? You can't lose.
The lone 2004 or newer, I'm not sure, Passat, in my parking lot does indeed look like an Audi cousin. The door pulls (interior) were dead on identical to the door pulls on my 2003 allroad, other bits and pieces (look at the engine -- an "Audi" 2.8) are also from the VW/Audi group (if they're not they missed an opportunity for volume discounts on some of the switchgear.) . . .I read with some disappointment the July sales figures posted here on edmunds for the LPS group. Audi's A6, once again, was at the bottom of the list (in fairness, it is sometimes above the Acura's RL, but be that as it may the Acura and the Audi are lagging behind other German and Japanese players.) So, with my tail tucked between my legs, I got fired up [again] ... Read More
The previous A6 usually did ok in IQ scores, but tanked in the mid-term test. All of those recalls certainly didnt help. Interestingly, the 2005 A6 managed just average scores for IQ, scoring lower in two catergories than the 2004 A6. Obviously there is no long term data for the new car yet, so its hard to say wether its going to be as bad as the previous car. Edmunds consumer ... Read More
