I am very confused and I hope that someone out there has some good advice for me. Here is my issue....I brought my 2002 Audi A6 to the dealer several weeks ago b/c my engine light was on. They said I had two problems. (1) A coolant sensor had to be replaced...no problem and (2) I needed a new torque converter...it could be done for $2000. GULP!!!! I initially declined ... Nothing in a can is going to save you I'm very sorry to say, and it's not a very easy repair DIY either. Of course I don't know your skill level with tools, mechanicals, etc. RE: Flickering oil light -- I believe on the A6 there is a high rpm oil light and a low rpm oil light, so I'd suspect a bad sensor. You don't have the 1.8T engine so sludge should not be an issue for you. Read More...

I have a 2002 A6 that has either blown head gaskets on both banks or a combination of blown gaskets and cracked heads. Has anyone had experiance repairing this with products like "Thermagasket". Or is the repair easily done yourself with a repair manual? Shop estimates range from $1900 to $5000 to repair. Read More...

1. Not really. After the initial warranty, you pretty much foot the bill. BMW's CPO program and 100k warranty is IMO much stronger (previously own 2002 325xi and 2005 645ci). 2. It can. Audi 2002 A6 4.2 sports suspension, 17 inch rims. 6 hours ago, I replaced my semi-bald standard 255 Z 40 tires with 4 new 235 Y 45 tires from Bridgestone (their rain racing tires, I am told--I live in rain country). My advice is to sell...I have been going through the same thing-starting with having to replace the ignition coils (for the second time) and am now replacing the torque converter and am being told to expect the electronics for the ABS to be next (a $1500 item). Best advice is RUN AWAY! Dump the car ASAP. I HAD an Audi A6 2002 with 65k miles. Always serviced through Audi dealers on schedule. Last year the water pump broke, $2k later, back on the road . I take in for scheduled maintenance and I'm told I need to replace my O2 sensor to the tune of $700 dollars. Last month the engine light comes on and then goes off, but the car continues ... When Audi came out w/ the A6 in 2005, the MSRP was around 41k to start for a 3.2 Quattro. You could get a fully loaded one for just over 50k. Now the same 3.2 Quattro starts @ 45k. With premium, nav, tech, milano leather, it's over 55k. As a comparison, you can't buy a fully loaded 2008 MB E class V6 or BMW 5 series for 625/mo w/ $1000 out of pocket @ 15k miles a year and get all ... Read More...
