Don't know if you ever found the problem with the ESP light, but I had the same problem in my A6. WOW. I received a 2002 a6 quatro with a little over 10,000 miles from my mom in law a few months ago. I've been looking over her repairs for the last 9 years and it has cost her over $10,000.00. I have an 2002 Audi A6 3.0L CVT and the same this is happening to me..The car starts to decelerate when I'm pressing down on the gas, and my mechanic says it's a internal failure, and recommends replacing the WHOLE transmission. Greetings Mr.Kealbert (Audi Woes), 56k_miles in seven years is not allot of driving. If your spending that much on repairs per year, get the equity you still have in that 02_A6 and put it in something more reliable. With only 56K miles you should get a better trade_in offer because the dealer that resell's that car will use the "Low Mileage" as a selling point. I can see the sign now ... Read More

Hi, I just read your post, I have a 2002 A6 avant quatro with 3.0L which I just found has a crack in the engine block in # 6 cylinder, leaking coolant into the cylinder. only 55k miles. this is very disappointing, checking with audi if it is a casting problem. No overheating.

I have audi A6 2002. 2 years ago there was an engine problem and I did repair it at the dealer splitting 6000 cost with Audi America. 42 months later Ignition coil light came and I got that repaired for 1800. Nothing in a can is going to save you I'm very sorry to say, and it's not a very easy repair DIY either. I have a 2002 A6 that has either blown head gaskets on both banks or a combination of blown gaskets and cracked heads. Has anyone had experiance repairing this with products like "Thermagasket". Or is the repair easily done yourself with a repair manual? Shop estimates range from $1900 to $5000 to repair.

1. Not really. After the initial warranty, you pretty much foot the bill. BMW's CPO program and 100k warranty is IMO much stronger (previously own 2002 325xi and 2005 645ci). 2. It can. With my experience with Audi/VW, (rounding out 6 years) I have never heard of a transmission being repaired, only replaced. Other than the CVTs in 2002, Audis traditionally have rock solid trannys (which btw, was a software issue if i am not mistaken) Do not fret and enjoy your A6.

I took deliver yesterday of my 2nd Audi now. (I had an 2002 A6 2.7T). My new car is 3.2, tech, s-line, premium, sunroof. So far working great. Hoping to not have Mark's trouble with starter buttons (so far OK at 120 miles!). Took the Audi 24 month lease with the AOA rebates, etc. :)

The S6, post 1995, has ONLY been offered in the US in Avant form. I suspect this is to make certain that no one confused the S6 with "R" versions. Don't forget Audi's all inclusive maintenance program. The headlight went out on my 2002 A6 last week. The dealer said no appointment necessary to get it replaced. My trip computer always shows me getting 1.5 - 2.0 MPG more than actual. If it shows 20.2 I am really getting 18.5. Yesterday I filled up and the trip showed 21.2 and after calculating it was 19.7. Got the Premium Package, Cold Weather Package and the Premium Audio package. I didn't really want the premium audio, but I had to choose from what they had on the lot. What sort of option packages for $430? That seems like a great price. I was hoping to do similar for about $500 but with no money down and can do 10K/yr. As a soon to be ex-A6 2002 4.2 owner (replacing with '05 645 Ci in 3 weeks) I must say the reliability of my 4.2,other than warped rotors,has been exemplary. Run away from this scenario. The 2.7T is a great performing engine -- the 2001 may have some parts issues that, although probably able to be CPO'd to 100K or 2 years, still makes a newer car less money. The brake rotors on the 2001's are notorius for warping. The 2.7T engine will need a serpentine belt replacement by 60K miles (this is a four figure job). Around 60K miles, maintenance ... Read More
