Review of the 2001 Audi A6

  • Refined and luxurious, the all-weather A6 family offers a satisfying alternative to the BMW 5 Series or Mercedes E-Class -- the 2.7T is our favorite.

  • Safety
  • Pros

Large selection of engines, well-appointed interior, all-wheel-drive stability.

  • Cons

Non-linear steering, questionable exterior styling, 4.2's molded rear seat.

The last mohigan- 215k!

Vehicle: 2001 Audi A6 2.8 Fwd 4dr Sedan (2.8L 6cyl 5A)

I discovered this site this evening as I am researching new vehicles. Alas, my Audi a6 and I are soon to part ways. We've endured 7.5 years together, with minimal disagreements. Outside of routine maintenance, I've invested perhaps 3-4k or so, collectively. Purchased the car with 27k, and it currently has over 215k on it! (with my occupation as sales manager, it behooves me to hold onto my vehicles). Can I say I've been pleased? in a word, yes! I am actually feeling a little saddened over my soon- to-be split with my a6, but as we all know, all good things must come to an end. The divorce is indeed amicable.

Catalyic converter problems

Vehicle: 2001 Audi A6 2.8 Fwd 4dr Sedan (2.8L 6cyl 5A)

I bought the car as a certified used car. The converters were replaced by Audi at 52000 miles and 69000 miles later I find I need to replace them again to the tune of 2500. It would appear the converters have a problem since I have maintained the car as directed by Audi and have always used premium fuel. I would be concerned about buying a used high mileage Audi. Other than this hit and front end suspension repairs this has been a good car to drive. Please send money. ;-)

Very reliable. Very quiet ride and great comfortable seating. Visibality is very good all around. Triptonic gear is great when needed. mileage short\ distances is 17. Miles per gallon using 87 octane. Turning radius is remarkable.

2001 audi a6 2.8

Vehicle: 2001 Audi A6 2.8 Fwd 4dr Sedan (2.8L 6cyl 5A)

I purchased my A6 2.8 used in 2002. It was in perfect condition and had low miles. It was, and still is, a beautiful car and a pleasure to drive. At the time of purchase, my commute to work was about 32 miles one way on interstate highway. Speeds where high and traffic heavy. I always felt safe in my Audi due to their reputation and side curtain air bags. I love everything about this car except its lousy maintenance history. It has been a very expensive (dollars and time) car to own. I can live with components wearing out and needing replacement but the continual oil leaks are unacceptable. It seems that I've had every gasket and seal replace on the engine, drive train and power steering.

Go with a lexus

Vehicle: 2001 Audi A6 2.8 Fwd 4dr Sedan (2.8L 6cyl 5A)

The Audi is indeed a sexy sleek beautiful machine but the maintenance is a nightmare. From the dash lights to the creeky noise of the steering wheel (that Audi still can't identify), water pumps and the wear and tear of the "aluminum" shifter plate. I'd say that the maintenance money could be better spent. I came from a 1995 Lexus ES 300 with160,000 miles on it that still ran like a champ. My 2001 A6 has been to Audi twelve times now for warranty work. I have spent more time in the loaner car. Just my advice - you don't see many on the road for a reason..... Good luck.

A year after the honeymoon,

Vehicle: 2001 Audi A6 2.8 Fwd 4dr Sedan (2.8L 6cyl 5A)

I came from a 2000 Passat 1.8T. I loved the Passat and had it not been for the Chrome trim and taller greenhouse, I might have gone with the B5.5 model Passat. But the A6 seemed to tie it together better than both the Passat and the A4. The car has got looks, more than enough power for civilized driving, plenty of room in a shiek cabin, and the road manners of a locomotive- meaning it sticks! In good weather it's nice with the roof open and Bose stereo up, but this car even makes bad weather fun to drive in. Comfortable, stable/predictable, solid, etc... I knew this coming into the relationship, and I have not been let down yet.
