Yo Brooksman (fritzmuldoon) I hear your frustration! Got to tell ya, I'm not much of a fan when it comes to Acronym's, I found 250 Plus (P.O.S.) after doing a search on Google. The other side of this coin is I worked within the automotive industry and around vehicles for long time and I think I remember what P.O.S. stands for even though acronym's were not in style back in the ... I bought my 1992 Vigor GS the first weekend they were available back in 1991. I had that car for 16 years, over 165k miles until it too was lost in an accident. The Vigor is my favorite car that I have owned, at least partly for sentimental reasons (my first new car). It was really great for me. I believe I spent less on maintenance for the Vigor in its ... Thanks for your suggestion. I bought one of the very first Acura Vigors to reach America back in 1991, and I had it for 16 years. I loved that car! What engine did you get? If it is the 2.7T, you are probably in for engine trouble. Regardless of the engine you are probably in for suspension problems with that mileage.
Help, is anyone out there? I just brought a 1999 Audi A6 Wagon on 3-3-08. I'm wondering is it going to give me trouble. Is it a good car or because of the year and mileage, is it worth my while. It has 102,000 miles on it. I have been feeling unsure since I brought it, I don't know but something just doesn't feel right. Please help me.
What does it mean when the ABS and Brake light go on occassionally while I'm driving? Is this something that's an easy fix (i.e., fuse, brake fluid) or do I have to haul it off to the repair shop (again). Any advice is good advice. Thansk! 1999 Audi A6 Quattro 89000 miles
Just paid $459 for the serpentine belt & tensioner repair on my Audi A6. Is this a fair price? Wholesale parts were less than $80 - but okay, so the local 'non-Audi' dealer made a few dollars ... looks like a bit of labor to reach this system. Any comparable costs out there? Is this a fair price? Thanks.
I just wanted to acknowledge the great resource this forum has been to my recent car-buying experience. I have purchased a new '06 Audi Avant 3.2 wagon with premium package for $41,000 (sticker was $51,700). After the first 1000 miles, all is well. Scrolling through everyones discussion, seems there are quite some reliability issues! This was surprising. Most of the reliability problem models seem to be flagged in Edmunds.com reviews (eg. some of the Jeep Cherokee models!) What is the consensus with '99 and '00 A6 models? ... Read More
For the next day or possibly two there is a loaner 2002 Audi A6 3.0 -- my wife's TT is in the shop for what appears to be a dead power window motor (and the part, if needed will probably be a day or two in arriving). The new 3.0 is a quattro and has several options, including leather, home link, compass, tiptronic, upgraded stereo and heated seats, etc. The car ... Read More
I am having difficulty playing music CD-R discs in my 2001 Audi A6 4.2 sedan. I recently installed a TDK 24x10x40x CD Burner in my computer. I have been able to play high speed music CD-R discs in my $80.00 portable CD player, my compact stereo CD player, and my wife's 1999 Volvo S80 sedan without any problems. I have used different CD-R brands and have decreased my burn speed from ... Read More
Our last several A6's have been 1999's and, now, a 2002. While the cars have been quite pleasurable, each has suffered from some problems, primarily electrical. The most recent acquisition, a 2002 A6, has 5,500 miles. It was in for a minor body repair; out of an excess of caution, I asked for the car to be put through the electronic diagnostic. It indicated a problem with the exhaust camshaft. When ... Read More
The 4.2 is faster, the 2.7T is quicker -- yet, in the US, they are equally fast as they are top speed limited to 130mph. The differences between the cars is principally one of "feel" -- to me the 4.2 feels even more solid than the 2.7T (this is due, in part, to the fact that the car despite extensive use of aluminum IS HEAVIER), consequently it is very very smooth ... In Illinois (11/21) I received lease quotes for both the A6 4.2 and the 540i. Audi is calling it at 54% residual at 39 months and BMW at 60% at 36 months. I believe BMW may be subsidizing since the model is in its last year of the cycle. The CNN comments apply to the 98 A6 which was the 2.8 derivative, prior to the release of the 2.7T and the ... I also have a few observations on your impending choice. First, both Mark and Tim have rendered good advice. I have no ownership experience with the 4.2. My familiarity is limited to the A6 2.8 and the 2.7T. The 1999 A6 was an Avant; it has been replaced with a 2002 A6 3.0. The difference is striking. While I expected the increase in horsepower and torque to be noticeable, in reality ... Read More
The A6 4.2 sounds like an ideal choice; I wish you many years (if ownership) or months (if lease) of enjoyment. Quattro compensates, up to a point, for winter conditions; it apportions what traction you have in a far more sophisticated manner than non all wheel drive. Traction, in the engineering sense, comes from the tires interaction with the road surface. In other words, if you are as fond of your ... Read More
Jared, here's a complete list of Audi platforms from Audi AG. The W8 does ride on a DIFFERENT larger platform than other Passats, the same one used for the A6. I'd forgotten about this until I got a recent issue of Auto Week, noticed the car looked bigger and longer. I discounted it until I looked up this table again, and apparently, it is bigger and longer. The same photo's are ... Read More
Virtually all of my Audis have had brake squeaks. The 1999, 2000 and 2001 have been the only exceptions (A6 2.8, A6 4.2, A6 4.2 in that order). Regarding the pedal issue only my 4.2's have had spongy pedal feel -- since I do not know if your A6 is a 2.8 or 2.7T/4.2, I don't know if my experience is meaningful. Whenever I have been loaned an A6 2.8 quattro ... Read More
I have owned three A6 class automobiles with the 2.8 powerplant (1992 100S 1993 100S 1999 A6 2.8)-- and, at the moment in time that I owned them, I thought they were the best cars I ever had. All of them, except the '99 were 5spd manuals and they performed very well in every aspect. Even the '99 A6 2.8 was very enjoyable, comfortable and fast -- it just wasn't quick ... Read More
If you have just joined in on the Edmunds town - hall A6 message board, and have read the "lively" converstations pertaining to my A6 4.2 brakes (and some 2.7T's and now A8's brakes), and remarks from timcar, bertram60, etc. I want to tell you that none of the problems I have had would put me off buying another Audi or another future A6. I suspect that even those, like me, ... Read More
I need some advice. I have a chance to either buy a 1998 Audi A6 (not quattro), it has 27K miles on it and is certified to 75K / 5 years. price $24K. It is in great condition. or ... I could do the new lease thing and get a 2001 Audi A6 quattro for about $10 a month more than my payment would be on the abvoce car. My problem ... Read More
I would like to hear opinions regarding the 1998 A6. I test drove 2 over the weekend (one w/ 27,000 miles and one w/ 37,000 - both Audi Certified). Both were priced at $28,000. I have not owned an Audi before. The 37,000 mile car had "every option" as far as I could tell. The 27,000 mile car did not have the Bose stereo or CD changer. As I don't live ... Read More
JK Ralph, at Northland Audi in Cincinnati, told me the 2002 A6 2.7T has a great deal of the look of a 2001 A6 4.2 -- flared front fenders, below the grill spoiler/air intake, etc. Now this tells me that it would be possible for the tire size to be 255 x 40 x 17. But, based on past experience with Audi's, they will probably have a somewhat smaller tire -- ... Read More
I must admit my 2000 A6 was leased through a bank -- term 27 months. I bailed out of the car @ 17 months and 23,000 miles. I got Audi of America to make the first payment on the 2001 A6 (on an AFS 30 month lease, no money down and no sec dep). I walked out of the dealer with the new car with 29 payments to go.) I still ... Read More
The Audi A6 models 2.7T and 4.2 use different brakes than the 2.8. I had a 1999 A6 2.8 quattro, kept it about 15,000 miles and never any problems with the brakes. I then leased a 2000 A6 4.2 -- new rotors were required at 1,000 miles -- they chattered and purred and vibrated from mile 1. New front rotors again about 12,000 miles later -- for a total of three ... Read More
Hi Mark, I live in the West Chaster/airfield area and am interested in a 1999/2000 A6 quattro or 2.7T. Since you probably know other Audi owners that take immaculate care of their cars... do you know of anyone wanting to sell in the next 6 months? I have visited North land and agree they are great, however their preowned selection is always limited. Thank you in advance ! Jeff T.
So what did Audi do with their option packages, from 1999 to 2000? I have a 2000 A6 Avant. No auto dimming mirrors included with the sunroof package, as compared to the '99 model year. Personally, I don't care about memory seats, or an ability to change station channels on the steering wheel. But the lack of the auto dimming mirrors is annoying. It seems absurd to have a car in ... I am looking to purchase my first Audi in the upcoming month but I am having trouble on deciding which to get, A 1998 A8 with 50-60K miles or an 1999 A6 with 30-40k miles. The A8 is bigger more luxiourus, etc, etc but the A6 is newer and has less miles. Would anyone that has had one or both of these give me hand on which to get?
