Audi A4 Maintenance and Repair

Re: New v Used [embeeduece]

Audi & VW have had a running issue with coil packs for many years. Check on the history and details on the problem at: http://www.mylemon.com/VW_18T.php Also, I had an issue with my A4 1.8T about 2 years back and after discussing it with a "former Audi Service Tech" who had opened his own shop, he related that sometimes the internal oil seal around the valve cover ... Re: 2003 Audi A4 1.8 T NEW noise. HELP! [pigeonlover]

pigeonlover: I would tend to agree with rowlandj that wheel bearings might be the problem, especially considering that you have 135k miles on them w/o prior replacement. My understanding is that if you are driving at highway speeds and turn your steering wheel slightly (not aggressively, of course!) either way, the noise will stop if it is a wheel bearing. I ... A speed sensitive 'growl' as you describe likely has to do with axle bearings or wheel bearings. If you have them checked out you may find that they are in need of replacement. With this vehicle I would expect that the fronts are the issue. You will likely need replacement of the offending part but I would not drive it too much before you have it checked out as a bad bearing ... Read More...

My cars are purchased brand new, I hang on to them for a long time, get regular maintenance, oil changes, and parts replaced when the record books say they need to be or if needed, and are driven well. I've always driven manual transmitions and feel ... Read More...

Help with Purchase - BMW 328 ix or A4 2.0

I had a 2003 Audi 1.8T which I loved. Recently hit by a drunk driver and my car was totaled. May end up buying newer version of the same thing I had, but of course part of me thinks I should try something new. Considering the BMW 328ix. Test drove both and like them. I thought the BMW felt a little smaller in the driver's seat - does this seem accurate? I live in snowy climate ... Read More...
