I have lamented the lack of manual transmissions in these ELLPS and LPS cars for years -- my last manual was virtually the last manual that I could get in a car that I really wanted, and that was in a 2003 Audi allroad with the 2.7T engine. Then I bought a 2005 Audi A6 with the 6-speed tiptronic, followed by a 2009 A4 2.0T Prestige with the sport package (also ... Read More
I'm having the same issue on my 2003 A4. Did you ever figure out what was going on and how to fix it? I imagine it can't be something too difficult to adjust. Thanks.
I have had the car for about 8 months now (it has about 80000 miles on it now) and Ive had no problems with this car at all. But lately, the radio and speakers have been on the fritz. It always started by just displaying "Phone" on the radio's display and it wouldn't let me do anything else on it (pushing any of the buttons on the radio didn't do squat). ... Read More
While driving my 2003 Audi A4 on the freeway, as I approached a toll booth, I tapped the break to disengage the cruise control. The car slowed down so that I passed through the toll both at approximately 18 mph. 2003 A4 3.0Q, 105,000 miles... On drive home from dealer after having coil recall work done, the check engine light came on again. Turns out, both of my catalytic converters and 2 O2 sensors leading in were totally shot. The Audi dealer told me "Audi has not let us know about any link between engine coil malfunctions (the recall) and catalytic converter failures". They proceeded to say, in very predicatable fashion, ... Read More
Don't get me started. since I bought my 2002 A4 3.0L (brand new), I have spent $10,000 on repairs. Hey partybynight, as a former Audi owner and someone looking to possibly buy another Audi, I can't recommend buying any Audi that is out of warranty. Things that could go wrong: (1) Anything electronic could simply stop working (screwdriver won't help with that); (2) You are correct about the trans - stick with a manual; (3) Sooner or later the car will leak some or all fluids - so check under ... I am having the same problem with the radio of my 2003 A4 1.8T Audi Cabriolet. When I got in my car last Friday morning, I had no radio reception. Since they already had me for $1100 (purge ... Read More
From an owner of a 2003 A4 --- it could be a bad coil pak, a secondary air supply system problem, a fuel pump problem, engine sludge or any of many problems that are Audi's design defect problems , and , like Toyota, will probably kill their company, including oil and fuel leaks that have caused fatal engine fires...so to start, go to any autozone and ask them to download your ... I currently own an audi a4 2000, and my father owned an a4 2001, which he was happy to get rid of. We both liked the cars, but frankly, the reliability of audi and vw is scary. pigeonlover: I would tend to agree with rowlandj that wheel bearings might be the problem, especially considering that you have 135k miles on them w/o prior replacement. My understanding is that if you are driving at highway speeds and turn your steering wheel slightly (not aggressively, of course!) either way, the noise will stop if it is a wheel bearing. A speed sensitive 'growl' as you describe likely has to do with axle bearings or wheel bearings. If you have them checked out you may find that they are in need of replacement. With this vehicle I would expect that the fronts are the issue. You will likely need replacement of the offending part but I would not drive it too much before you have it checked out as a bad ... Actually they resolved the issue back in 2003 when they retroactively changed the oil spec for their engines. Use oils certified to meet the 502.00 VW oil spec (or better still use oils that meet the higher 503.01 oil spec), change your oil on schedule and you shouldn't have any problems. Hi, Guys: I just purchased an '03 Audi A4 convertible. This is my first Audi. It's a really nice looking convertible. I was just wondering, can you get away with regular fuel or medium grade? Also, are the Pereli tires decent tires for this car? I have the 1.8 turbo. What kind of oil is the best for this car? Thanks for your input. Steve(NJ)
I have owned a 2003 A4 before and liked the car, but it was when I could get a smokin' deal on the borrowed money, like 1.9% interest offer. I don't think that hitting a $18,500 residual will be too tough. There was a lawyer that posted something about leasing through Audi Finance as a bad idea because of not being able to sell the car to someone else without getting ... Read More

Just wanted to share my frustrations with the quality and reliability of Audi A4 1.5T Quattro which I bought in 2000. The car is 60000 miles and I am ready it call it quits. Here is why. From the driving perspective I love the car, it has tremedous pick up and very nice handling. Unfortunately, the maintenace cost and time wasted at the dealer is killing me When I bought my ... Car_man, Thanks a lot. I was waiting for your response. It seems like the dealers in this area are quoting in same range. However, I was just wondering how some people in this forum are quoting Sellig price less than invoice. Another dilemma - Right now I lease 2003 bmw 530i with all options. I still have 4 payments left. So one option is to pay 4 payments+ 1,000 for mileage ... Read More
I'm in a quandry, folks... PLease help. My lease on my 2003 330XI is up in 2/07. I love the car. Residual value is 22,800. I'm looking at the A4 lease deal for 24 months at 379.00/month. Resale value of the BMW is 28-30K. Any suggestions. Should I keep the BMW(I only have 29K miles) and buy it or lease the AUdi. I need to decide quickly as the lease deal ... Read More
Hi, I am thinking of replacing my Toyota 4-Runner with a luxury type of wagon. My wife and I have a toddler as well as a golden retriever. I just don't need the towing capability of an SUV and would like better on-road driving (less of the truck-like handling that my 4Runner has). I also want better fuel efficiency. I am in the beginning stages of my research. I haven't driven ... Read More
Well, I do not know WHAT the problem is, but I will shortly become an Ex-Audi owner, of a 2003 A4. We are moving from New Jersey to Portland, OR. I had my 50K maintenance last week, two days before starting our trip. Sunday evening, the transmission stopped working outside of Des Moines. Using Roadside Service, we were towed to a local Audi dealer. Customer Service got them to pay attention ... Read More
I test drove an 2006 audi A4 Quattro just to see the difference. nice car , yes you kind of get more for your money and does seem roomier. But I had test driven a 2003 330xi before and loved that better the handlign was soooo much nicer. I plan to stick with my first instinct and get a BMW. Although I could go for an Audi with its great incentives, ... Read More
I have an Audi A4 2005 with the same problem. My car must have been 'tapped' during parking - I saw no visible bumber damage. The dealer says there is a cut on the bumper. There is an aluminum pipe RIGHT BEHIND THE BUMBER that cracked. This is part of the AC. My PLASTIC radiator mount was also cracked. The dealer charged me around $2000 to fix these and to redo ... Hi, I have a 2003 Sebring Covertible which I have enjoyed and want to trade it in while I am at break even and before I have to start pouring money into it. 2 weeks after the warantee was over Dec.31st, I had to replace two window motors, a week apart. I know there is appro. another 700.00 in maintenace repairs I must do, I forgot exactly what. The car has ... Read More
