Re: Entry level luxury car recommendations` [btc33]

I assume you want a used car - and it has to be quite used (4+ years old). I own BMW myself, but bought it new with maintenance. I love, but would not get one for 18 grand, especially if did not have more money to spend after the purchase. If maintenance costs are real issue for you, start with Acura TSX or TL. TL is definitely more luxurious, but more ... Read More

I wanted to try another brand because my previous car was the 2003 TL Type S, the G just did not do it for me, I tried to force myself to like it but I just knew it would have been buyers remorse. When I was looking for a new 2005 ELLPS, I looked at the G35 along with the TL. The G35 was noticeably a bit narrow, but not a ... Read More

BMW vs. Acura TSX
Written by: nyccarguy on Oct 20, 2011 1:12:45 PM
I would say the 328 gives up nothing to the TSX as far as reliability goes. The E90 3 series platform has been around since 2005. My Mom had an '08 328xi that never went into the shop for anything other than scheduled maintenance. Yes she had to put brakes on at 50,100 miles & pay for an Inspection II @ 58,000 miles, but nothing ever broke. In my experience, you ... Read More

I agree. But how is BMW any different? The 328i is the same E90 introduced in 2005 (MY2006), only it has 15 more HP and weighs 100 lbs more. It is eclipsed in HP by several cars in this segment, but it soldiered on. Why? Because it sells. It is the entry point into BMW luxury and prestige. For Acura, the TSX is the entry point into the ELLPS segment. And ... Read More

I love the illustrations but they prove little but you did point out that acura/honda did have a good past stable of sports cars but as you know the nsx hasnt been produced since 2005 the s2000 was 09... now given the fact that those 2 cars were rwd and were light weight and were great handlers - something the TL and TSX are not. - Is the A4 a sports ... The car will run on other grades of gas, but it is not recommended. I own an '06 TSX w/ nav, and I've used 89 octane a couple times because that's all that was available. You will see a reduction in mileage and performance. If you do the math, you're really not saving much by using anything other than premium. I've seen some posts on this site of people getting really ... Read More

i own an 06 tsx bought new 11.17.06. It has 16,000 miles on it. I use regular gas- it gets an 32-33 mpg in mixed driving and the best was 36.5 mpg on a highway with a speed limit of 70. the perfomance is excellant. the only complaints are-the paint chips easily, the wipers are terrible and the fog-lights are easily cracked. Otherwise I would highly recommend it, my tsx is ... Read More

Well, I could have gotten a 2005 w/nav for 27k. So I think there is room for negotiation. I bought a TSX without nav, so I cannot speak to its reliability. All TSXs are loaded. There is only nav/no nav and MT vs AT. My MT gets 23-24 in town, 29 highway (avg. 70mph). I have never used anything other than 92 octane. You can, but it has been my experience ... Read More

2005 Acura TSX gas/reliability/costs questions
Written by: ofthrees on May 24, 2007 10:45:11 AM
I am looking at a 2005 TSX w/nav. It is loaded; to list it all would take forever, but suffice it to say, it's a brilliant car. Under 19,000 miles, the VIN is clear, and the sticker is so reasonable ($24K) that there's probably not a lot of room for negotiation (although I will certainly try). Before I enter into negotiations for it, I'm concerned about costs of ownership. I'm wondering ... Read More

California - 2005 ACURA TSX price

I am interested in purchasing the 2005 Acura TSX, non-navi. I live in the SF Bay Area, but if there is a big markup, I was considering buying in southern california or nevada. Did you buy one recently - if so, what did you pay? I was hoping to get a little below invoice. Thanks!

Compared prices in Northern Virginia in late October. Pohanka, Radley, and Karen Radley offered very similar prices from their Internet Managers. All three had a very limited supply of 2005 TSX's. I ended up going with Radley in Bailey's Crossroads, VA because they had the colors I wanted on the lot. 2005 Acura TSX, automatic, non-nav, black ext., parchment int. $25,800 plus a $245 doc fee (which I couldn't talk them ... After shopping for a 2005 TSX automatic non-navi via the Acura dealers in Madison, WI and Brookfield (by Milwaukee), WI, and all of the Acura dealers in the Chicago suburbs, I ended up with a great deal ($25798 + TTL) at Muller's Woodfield Acura on Higgins Rd in Hoffman Estates. It was more like, "Sir, now that you have bought this vehicle, I must tell you that the thieves can easily bypass all the security features and steal your vehicle. But our $300 alarm can deter all of them" It was some dealer/OEM alarm not LoJack.

Alarm system? It already comes with a "Theft-deterrent system with electronic immobilizer". How did he push that one? "Sir, now that you've purchased this 'luxury car', I should tell you that the alarm system is woefully inadequate." The name of the alarm he was peddling wasn't by chance "The Club", was it? Or was he trying to push a recovery system like Lo-Jack?

I bought the Acura TSX, 6MT, silver/gray from Sunnyvale Acura at $25,400 + Fees = $27,317 OTD today. The internet sales manager offered me this price over telephone and didn't want to go below the invoice. I would say the entire transaction was quite smooth, except for slight haggling/pushing by the finance guy to install an alarm. They have one more TSX w/NAV 6MT available if anyone is interested and the ... Read More

Great minds think alike, I also test-drove a TSX on Labor Day, in Chicago. I've driven Saabs since 1983, because they're a good size car for heavy traffic and cramped city living. However, I need a change, and Saab is now a GM car. My accountant is a smart guy, and he swears by his Acuras. Moreover, all my friends say that Japanese cars are extremely durable and reliable. asleepy, My decision to buy the TSX involved several factors. Actually I will need to replace another car soon, so I will be revisiting the performance sedan category again, which means the TL and 325i will be on my list (I may add the IS 250/350).
