That for the feedback, I went and checked my owner's manual and it said if you drive in really hot temperatures to replace the timing belt every 60,000 miles. I live in Phoenix, AZ so that must be what the dealership is going off of.

look in the owners manual. If you still have one with service intervals, otherwise might have to check the internet. the first change is called for at ~100K (maybe 105?) or 7 years. So you were well under that at 60K. But, they may have a shorter interval for subsequent changes. But I doubt if it was me that I would replace it again that soon. As to mounts, the ones ... 2005 Acura TL
Written by: prprt33 on Mar 24, 2012 8:17:12 AM
I have 154,000 miles on my 2005 Acura TL and have changed the timing belt twice already, once at 60,000 miles and again at 120,000 miles. The Acura dealership is telling me to do it again at 180,000 miles. Is this too often? I noticed a gentleman had just changed his for the first time at 99,500 miles and their TL was a 1999 not a 2005. Thoughts? Also, has anyone ... Read More

I agree with your last paragraph. We're entering a period where "less is more" insofar as our choices in autos goes. It used to be only "bigger is better" and that only the big cars got the "more is more" treatment. I had (or my wife had, better said) three Audi TT's, the last two were the high performance models (at the time) with the 225HP 4 cylinder (1.8). Due to ... Read More

I have lamented the lack of manual transmissions in these ELLPS and LPS cars for years -- my last manual was virtually the last manual that I could get in a car that I really wanted, and that was in a 2003 Audi allroad with the 2.7T engine. Then I bought a 2005 Audi A6 with the 6-speed tiptronic, followed by a 2009 A4 2.0T Prestige with the sport package (also ... Read More

You never said more powerful either, why did you add that? So what are the cars that have more power but are mute ? You misquoted me. I said there are plenty of powerful engines out there that are not so harsh. Not "more powerful" - although I'm sure there are some of those, too. Audi, Acura, and BMW V6's are significantly less harsh. In fact, when I was looking at ... Read More

I wanted to try another brand because my previous car was the 2003 TL Type S, the G just did not do it for me, I tried to force myself to like it but I just knew it would have been buyers remorse. When I was looking for a new 2005 ELLPS, I looked at the G35 along with the TL. The G35 was noticeably a bit narrow, but not a ... Read More

No reason to disconnect the battery. Overkill yes. You will need a set of feeler gauges--at Lowes for $6 or $7---to take down the overhead light console without causing any damage. Real simple......

I have the same issue described with my 2006 Acura TL. I am planning on using bulletin 05-020 to replace the HFL unit myself. This would be my first foray into messing with electronic components in a car. Am I correct in assuming I should disconnect the car's battery before opening up the roof console and replacing the HFL? Or is that overkill for this type of project?

Add me to the list! My HFL died last week! When I bought the car, it was one of the reasons that persuaded me to pick the car! Very disappointed that it costs so much to replace the unit! Not a very happy camper here! And to think, I am deciding what new car to buy right now....this latest example has me looking elsewhere! Acura used to be such a great ... Read More

I would suggest using service bulletin 05-020 and follow the directions of prying the tab of the overhead lighting console, pulling down, taking out the 4 bolts, and disconnecting the bluetooth module. This takes about 10-15 minutes and is very simple to just unplug it.. I never work on cars and this was very simple for me. I changed out my module and it works better than the original--so I guess ... Read More

2005 Acura TL - HFL Draw on Battery
Written by: jkjhooks on Nov 29, 2011 11:41:08 AM
I've had no problems with the HFL, until recently... Took it to my regular service guy, after my battery would drain when sitting for a very short period of time. Battery is brand new, and the charging system is working properly. There is, however, between a 2.5 and 5 amp draw on the battery when it sits. They've tracked it back to what they think is the HFL. I can't find ... Read More

TL would not start: I suspect a HFL malfunction

My 2005 Acura TL would not start this morning. I replaced the battery in July. When trying to start the car, I had lights but the battery would not turn over the motor. After jumping the battery, the car started. Reading all of these blogs I suspect an HFL issue. My HFL stopped working in April and I did not think about having it fixed. After reading these blogs, it makes ... Read More

Just so you know--I purchased a CPO 2005 Acura TL 3 yrs ago and also have the extended 100,000 mile warranty. The HFL failed about a year and a half ago. I called the dealer where I purchased it, brought it in and said I was not paying for it because it should be covered and they did not charge me. Thanks for the replies so far. No real need for AWD, it’s just because BMW has the option. Meanwhile prices on 2007 TL’s around here started to drop (end of year I guess). Dealers still ask for a lot more and wonder if the additional crap they promise is worth it. I have a friend who had an Infinity G35 and despite the good fame Infinity service has, they did not ... Well, I had an '05 TL and am now driving an '09 328ix. Two totally different cars. Do you need AWD? If not, I would go with the TL, it's an absolute beast. I have to absolutely have AWD and Acura just doesn't offer anything that appeals to me. The new TL is a fugly behemoth. Too bad they didn't offer SH-AWD on the previous gen. TL, I would still be ... Don't get wrong the BMW is a great car to drive, and there is nothing like the BMW aura. But, the run flat tire concept is bad (see the BMW tire thread ) and the car just isn't that reliable ... I apologize for posting this in both BMW and Acura sections, but I thought this is the only way to gather attention from both sides. I have a hard time deciding between 2007 Acura TL and 2005 BMW 325xi. The 2005 BMW 325xi is the last model year that has the old classic look that I love.
