Our 3 transmissions that failed were automatic. I don't know about the 2006s though. I agree with the poster who said that all brands have their problems, quirks and nuances. How the manufacturer resolves these problems is what is crucial. I complained for 5 years about the transmission in my TL, Acura only performed a jet kit quick service of some sort. That's it. Complained constantly about the other 2 also ... Read More

Check CR Reliability History Charts
Written by: smarty666 on Aug 23, 2010 4:47:49 AM
The major/widespread transmission issues with Acura vehicles ended in either 2005 or the 2004 model year. People with 2006+ model years are not running into transmission issues like you guys are trying to imply. Go and check CR's reliability history charts for all the Acura models and you'll see that. Starting with the 2006 model years, the transmissions got above avg or much above avg ratings. If you look at the ... Read More

Through the years I've owned a Toyota Supra, an Acura TL, Acura CL, an Acura MDX and a 2004 Infiniti G35 and my wife has a 2007 G35. Owned several Accords and a Prelude. All nice cars. However, the transmissions went out after the warranty on the TL and the MDX. We had a great deal of problems with the CL. The transmission went out on my brother's MDX and his ... Read More

Don't count on it. My 2004 TL 6-speed returns 30+ mpg on the highway, but barely manages 15-16 mpg in the kind of short hop driving you are describing. True, 15-16 is nothing to get excited about but when I scroll through the Jeep's information center, it consistently reports 11-12 mpg after a couple weeks worth of around town driving. 17-18 or so is what it reports on interstate trips at ... I'm not sure what the hell you claim you were seeing on your tour of the Acura plant, but let me say that the idea that "break in" is a thing of the past is ABSOLUTELY WRONG. If anything, proper break in for high compression, high revving, high performance engines is much more critical to achieving maximum performance and longevity than it was to your dad's push rod Buick. Or Chevy ... Read More

Anyone that works at an Acura store, like myself, will admit that there were a few 2004 TL's that weren't up to snuff. I guess you can chalk it up to being the first year of a complete makeover. Edmunds.com gives the 2008 TL the nod for lowest cost of ownership for a car under $45,000, which, I think, says a lot. No car is perfect though. That's why we enjoy ... Read More

The G35 has one of the sweetest engines I have ever driven. Right from the start, you can feel the car move you without any noise. A real polished engine here. Unfortunately, my head hits the top of the vehicle so it's not going to happen for me but the TL-Type S is no slouch so I'll take one.

Glad to hear it. I find my TL a hoot to drive - even after 3 years so I can imagine the TL-S will be even more fun. I am not looking for perfection in a car but the ability to locate and fix rattles is mandatory. I have had them take my driver's side door apart many times looking for a squeaking noise and they seem to fix it for ... Read More

i too have really enjoyed this car, as i am sure anyone would too. i have a couple of small rattles, and those too drive me buggy since its the most expensive car i have owned. two issues popped up today (at 1995 miles):1) the back up cam went into a static filled split screen pulling out of the garage, with a vertical line right in the middle. did it once, ... The '07 Type S is much MUCH more fun to drive. It rides stiffer and tighter, steering is also tighter, but it is a hoot to drive. I drive it sometimes just for the hell of it. The instrument panel is amazing, and the navigation/voice commands is much more advanced than the older models. It comes with Michelin tires, which I am guessing won't last more than 25K miles. Rattles ?? ... Read More

tgr3 (or anyone else looking on): I have an 04 TL and am thinking of trading up to the new TL-S. How much different is the ride? I have had some intermittent interior clicks and noises on my 04 TL that the dealer has not been able to fix - minor annoyances but expected more from a $30K+ car. Any problems with build quality / interior rattling or noise on your ... Read More
