mark - good post-- something ive been saying for years- the acura line as we know it has not life and needs to be revived. Its been past by both lexus (luxury) and infiniti (sport) and no where near the germans. Where is the NSX, the integra, or the legend.. Cars are recycled from the parent acura line, like oldsmobile used to do with chevy cars.. olds no longer exists -for ... Read More
Having own four honda products in the past, I thought you would be aware that there was a known transmission issue with that model year. I had the Type S and the tranny went out at 30k, the dealer claimed they fixed it on a TSB recall, tranny went out again at 36K miles. I got frustrated and sold the car, but if you look back in boards you will see ... Read More
Hi Don, did you ever get any information on dealing with a jammed cd on the 2002 TL CD player? I know it's been a few years but I'd sure be appreciative if you could share it with me. thanks, John
It's painful for me to admit, but the beak on the current TL is the most hideous thing I've ever seen! This is coming from someone who still can remember my first time driving my cousin's brand new 1986 Acura Legend (dark blue with gray lower accent) and realizing that it was the most special car I'd ever driven. I later owned a 1994 Acura Legend GS that was the love ... Read More
I am going to buy a 2002 Acura TL next week with about 80, 000 miles on it.... ..You sound like a chronic whining complainer that no one could ever satisfy...... 160, 000 miles and you complain about needing a tyranny?? ...You g=have to be kidding me.....Acura and Honda are better off rid of customers like you..
I bought a new TL in 2000. About 3 years later the ever present transmission slippage began to occur. I complained to Dave White Acura in Toledo beginning at around 65,000 miles. The oil jet kit was performed. I formally complained to this dealership 6 times over the next 6 years and informally discussed it with the service rep nearly every time I brought it in for service. I asked for ... Read More
Okay everybody... Here are the true sales stats for the TL from Acura: 1999 = 56,566 2000 2G = 67,033 2001 = 69,484 2002 = 60,764 2003 = 56,770 2004 3G = 77,895 2005 = 78,218 2006 = 71,348 2007 = 58,545 2008 = 48,766 2009 4G = 33,620 Looks like the new redesign 3G in 2004 is more than double the sales of the current TL 4G. Numbers don't lie. ... Read More
I am in the similar age category as u. Go with TL for practicality and with GS for passion and enthusiasm. GS ride is classy but not quite as sharp as the BMW. TL is nice front wheel drive that is drivers car for someone that cannot do their own oil change but still likes to participate in a conversation about cars.
I've seen both the TL and GS for sale for around 8k-11k. Which has better handling and a stiffer suspension. And what year was the TL you owned?
I had an Acura and it was a lovely sexy car and I now own a Lexus GS 300 "06". They're both great vehicles, but I am partial to the GS. I'm not sure if you can find either under 10 grand, but keep hope alive. Most people who own these cars tend to keep them. At the age of 20 I would definitely go with the Acura. The body on ... I am looking into buying my next car and my budget is around $10,000. I like both cars, the 2002-2003 Acura TL and the 2001 Lexus GS 300. I am wondering which car is sportier, handles better, and is overall better? Also, I am about to be 20 years old so which car would suit me better?
Hi Dominic, Did you ever get a useful response to the CD jamming problem? I have the same thing, and would like to avoid an expensive trip to the dealer. What did you end up doing? -Don.
I am the original owner of a 2002 TL. This model had known transmission problems and the transmission warranty was extended to 7 years/100,000 miles. I am now at 85,000 miles and the transmission has failed, but the car is now over 7 years old. Dealer is quoting me $2500 for a new transmission. What are the chances I can get Acura to honor the warranty? If they won't, can I ... Read More

Mike, I'm afraid that I'm not a strict interpreter of what has to be mentioned on a particular thread. I belong to a forum in RV.net, where a number of us who have VERY similar motorhomes have maintained one thread since 2002, and it is 225 pages long. We have become friends, and the instances of "off topic" that caused any strife were as if we were talking about nuclear fission ... Read More
Try disconnecting one of the battery terminals for several minutes. That might reset the radio. However you will need your radio code card. Might have to go to the dealer to get it. If it doesn't work then it needs to be repaired.
Hi, I am having problems with the CD player getting CD's stuck in the player, Is there any way to get them out without removing the entire radio system? Thank You, Dominic
How has your overall experience been with the 300M? In '99 my wife and I debated between a 300M and a TL, and decided on the TL. We've never regretted our decision, but the 300M had some attributes over the TL, such as interior roominess and a large trunk. I rented a 300M once, and it drove well. Well, it has been a 10 year love/hate relationship with the 300M. On ... Read More
If my TL-S broke tomorrow, I would consider a BMW 3 series, the 370Z, or a used porsche 911. I guess after driving the acura I want something more sporty. I agree with you about the new Acura's styling which I find to be quite ugly. If Honda or Acura made a modern, cool sports sedan/coupe I would be very interested.
The new-for-2000 5-speed automatic was indeed problematic, but the good news is that Acura stepped up to the plate and replaced those that went bad under warranty. From what I know, the automatic transmission on the next generation TL ('04-'08) was reliable. My wife's '99 has the older 4-speed automatic, which, at 115,000 miles, has been trouble free. We also replaced the motor mounts, though, at about the same mileage as ... Read More
I've got about 90K miles on my acura. I've had to replace the transmission twice (covered under warranty) and have also had a similar problem with a 2000 Honda Odyssey. Overall, it's been a pretty good car, but the ... Read More

Different tastes for different faces. While the 2007 Maxima might not be the prettiest car arond it does certainly represent Nissan doing something unique and not following the rest of the pack (my fiance has never liked 07). I just got 2002 Acura TL back from the shop for its safety inspection. 107,000 miles, had them check all the brakes figuring it was probably time. Guess what, brake pads still had 50% left. My son has a 2002 RSX Type S. I bought him the extended warranty and just the other day he was saying he was glad I did that. It is no secret that Acura has a niche. That is providing a high quality car, with a lot of features, that runs forever. That represents good value in the eyes of most consumers. Almost 82,000 miles strong at this point for my 2002 TL-S. No major problems to speak of at this point (knock on wood). That is why the current TL was the highest rated car ever for Consumer ...
