Used TMV from $4,255
Actually, the transmissions problems began with the introduction of a new 5-speed automatic in the 2000 model year. The '99 had the older, proven 4-speed, which was generally reliable. Yours happened to fail prematurely, which is unfortunate, but one example doesn't prove the rule.
We recently replaced my wife's 2000 TL with a 2012 TL. Actually, while the 2000 served us flawlessly for 12 years we were not really considering another one since there was so much noise being made by the competition like Lexus and Genesis. Still, after driving those we decided to also test drive the TL. Boy, what a wake-up call. It was so much sportier and BMW-like in its drive that ... Read More
Doesn't look like a lot of miles on the Honda, why $2000 in the red? Dealer trade-in is $15.5K. Dealer retail is about $18K. Try aiming somewhere in the middle.
While I agree Acura should "advance" I feel they do not need to completely change to awd. They did very well in the 90 and 2000s with a front wheel drive setup. The biggest mistake is they lost its passion and have made the car more Buick then BMW. The dropped the low cost integra that got the youth in the door. They made the tsx bloated and its best car ... The point I was trying to make is- Infiniti is spending so much time chasing BMW that they are getting left behind in the dust. I say this all the time, back in 2000 when I graduated college, I ... Read More
My wife and I had settled on getting a new TL to replace our 2000 (other cars being considered were Genesis, Lexus ES, Honda Crosstour). The only problem was that we fell in love with the Mayan Bronze with Parchment interior. We ... Read More
Acura did extend their warranty to 100k on their lousy transmissions several years ago I also had a transmission go out on my 2000 TL last year. My 2000 TL's transmission just went out at 83,000mi. Even with the extended warrenty offered on this model year, Acura refused my request for ANY good faith assistance in replacement costs (due to age of vehicle). Frustrating to say the least, considering I'm the original owner and have purchased 4 Honda/Acura cars over the last 20+ years.
I'm sorry I can't give you good advice on your first and third questions. Regarding your second question, however, the transmission in the 2000 Accord is different from the one in the 2000 Acura TL. The Accord had the old time tested 4-speed automatic, while the TL featured a new 5-speed. The latter was problematic through about '03, with many owners experiencing the symptoms you described. You didn't mention the mileage ... Read More
I bought a 2007 TL and I also noticed power steering issues from day one. In my case the issue is at idle, which makes parking a 2 hand job at times. I am back to this forum again (after a number of years) since swmbo is hankering to replace her 2000 TL. I had used this and other forums the first time around back in 1999 to research before buying our first TL. At the time these were clearly the best bang-for-the-buck for someone considering a Lexus ES. However, pricing was largely non-negotiable as they were the hot ticket and already competitively ... The transmission problems began with the 2000 model year, when Acura went from a 4-speed to a new 5-speed automatic. How many miles are on your car? I ask because Honda/Acura extended the warranty for your transmission to 100,000 miles for those model years. I don't know if there's a time limit, but if there is maybe your Acura dealer would give you a pricing concession to repair or replace it. ... Read More

Just an update on Acura's terrible customer service. My previous post details how my 2000 TL transmission went out after I had complained for 5 years in writing. (makes a grinding sound) I was able to remove the door panel but I cannot figure out how to remove either the actuator or the entire lock assembly. This is in a 2000 TL. Does anyone know how to do this? I am trying not to spend $70 on the service manual. I can get a new actuator from Mag Auto for ... Read More
Thanks for posting those pictures. What have Acura done with that big, flashy, ugly chrome beak of a front grill? Isn't that the ugliest, "look at me" monstrosity you've ever seen on a car? Very well stated. Grille reminds of some kind of bird cartoon character. Can't think of which one. Somebody on Acura design team from old Pontiac Aztek? Why couldn't Honda/Acura simply have evolved the TL as Porsche has ... Read More
As far as I can see the car will take some getting used to but I am actually surprised and somewhat excited. I was not in favor of the last generation TL and need to see the interior and the whole car up close before I make a decision. Let me ask a question, I currently own a 2001 TL which is a very good car, I get 19 MPG in ... Read More
mine is having the same problem, how did it go at the dealer?
That is really no different then any other manufacturer, most of them have the same caveat. Acura is different in some respects, you can get the cash when leasing. Infiniti is running $2000 dealer cash right now, but you cannot get it on leases.
From one of the best looking cars on the road to this?? God I hope it looks better "in the flesh" than these 2 pictures portray...I've been an Acura owner since 2000 but I don't think I'm going to be able to continue once it's time to trade my 07 type S!!!!
Sent out email for internet quotes for the three Acura dealerships in my area (midwest) for a base 2008 TL with navigation, here are the replies. First dealership: "we don't do this by email, please call or come on in!" Second dealership: "32, 554, or if you want the good financing (0.9%) then it would be 2000 more." Third dealership : "Here's the MSRP on the TL without navi, with navi ... Read More
This is my first post so I hope it is in the right place? We just had a 2002 acura tl transported from florida (it was my moms car) she had purchased a new car and hadn't started the acura in 3 weeks in the hot florida sun; when the transport guy went to start the car it wouldn't start so he sprayed some wd40 on the air filter and it ... Kevin: The price of the car itself incldg dest only was $29,250 final cost BEFORE tax, title/reg, tire tax and doc fees. I did not know of, nor did I get a $2500 rebate. This was a cash purchase. When I first started researching, I was told that there was a special 1- Lease deal from Acura and 2- a special financing deal from Acura but nothing about a direct to ... Read More
We have a 2000 TL also, with 260.000 miles. Its on its third tranny. We dont deal with the Acura people when it comes to tranny work.(we get better warranties from a local tranny shop that the Acura guys recommended REALLY!) The story we are told is this. The housing that the tranny comes in has a sensor/computer attached to it that cannot be removed. This box is what causes the tranny ... Read More
Hi all ! i am currently trying to lease either the audi a4 or the acura TL. for some reason the Acura dealership ( in Fresno, CA) is not willing to give me a monthly payment or any sort of data over the phone. They want me to come in. I want to lease the Base automatic Acura TL for 36 months with 15,000 miles. and was wondering as to what ... Read More
Tomorrow when I first start the car I'll have my husband take a look. I appreciate so very much for the help!
Thanks for the help! i'm going to be checking immediately on this. I appreciate it SO much!!!!
I'd also check the radiator mounted electric fans to be sure they are operating to move cooling air through the radiator and A/C coils while the car is not moving. When you first start your car in the morning (before it warms) immediately turn on the A/C and be sure the electric fan motors ( I think there are 2 of them on that year) are running. If not, that will ... Read More
It sounds like a vacuum leak somewhere either in the vacuum reservoir that is not holding vacuum (could be something a simple as a vacuum check valve but quite often the check valve is part of the vacuum reservoir tank and not individually replaceable), a broken/leaky vaccum line or a leaking vacuum motor that works the actuator arm that opens and closes the air duct door to the heater core (when ... I have a 2000 Acura TL. Within the past 3-4 months, my A/C only blows cold when I'm moving. When I stop for longer than maybe 20 seconds, it starts blowing really warm air. When I finally pick back up the speed, it starts getting cold and it has a really funky smell (kinda like an old musty smell or something). Any idea on what may be the cause? Wanted to ... Read More
Hello, I bought my base TL on last day of March08. Acura was giving $2000 incentive as marketing support. Since April1, it is $2500. Yeah, I have kicked my self for that. With $2000 incentive, I got the car for $30,350+ tax + fees. I guess you should pay $500 less than what i paid. I bought mine from Bellevue Acura. I think Lynwood Acura might give you a slightly better ... Read More
