I am sure many of you have seen the new TSX commercial where they have a room filled with car engines all running surrounding a canary in a bird cage. Then they turn on the Audio Noise Canceling speakers to show you how quiet it becomes. Sorry to hear about this unfortunate situation. My 2010 TL is only 4 months old, and due to the superior breaking and steering control, I have been able to avoid 2 near miss accidents to date. I would not attribute this to the size of the car. One could argue that the car is so DAM attractive, that folks are looking at your car, not at the road. We all try ... Read More

Tires are key for winter handling. My 2004 TL 6-speed came with the "HPT" summer tire package. You might as well put ice skates on the car. I switched to a high performance "all season" tire and, although they are better, the car still doesn't handle the snow as well as my old 1995 Maxima. I'd partly agree with you, but one rarely hears of major mechanical malfunctions with Acura's relative to the engines, suspension, etc. The automatic transmission is clearly one of the biggest bullets in their magazine. All the electronic toys are probably little bullets as well, given that our MDX has had the Nav unit replaced twice in under 3 years and 40k miles. On the other hand my 1995 Nissan Maxima at ... That's about $350 more than I've spent in 155k miles on barkes for my 1995 Maxima. It needed new front pads at 90,000 miles and at 150,000 miles and new rears at 120,000 miles. I have a 2004 Tl and 1995 Nissan Maxima SE, both manual transmissions. As for the 2002/3 TL-S, the tranny problem alone would be enough to steer me clear of it. I know of at least two owners who are on their second replacements. Acura has covered them with an extended warranty and, I believe, loaner cars. But it is still a royal pain in the butt. As for the Maxima, ... Read More

Interesting comments. When shopping for the TL in April/May, the best I could do in terms of a navigation equiped car in the DC area was $500 off MSRP. A non-Nav could be easlily had for $1,500 off MSRP. That made the effective difference between a nav and non-nav vehicle about $3,000. I wouldn't have paid that much myself - I ended up negotiating a deal out of state for $1,000 ... Read More

Sorry, I can dispute Lexus being a notch better than Acura. I'm looking at the Consumer Reports list of "How Automakers Stack Up" listing brands by number of problems per 100 vehicles for three year old cars. Acura is #1 with 21, Toyota and Lexus tied for second/third with 25, Honda 4th with 32...Cadillac is last with 82. But let's not split hairs on reliability. Acura and Lexus (and Honda and ... Overall, at 3,000 miles, my experience with the TL has been very good. I generally like the performance and handling. The "amenities": bluetooth phone, navigation system, XM radio etc. all serve to make my drives more pleasant. The clutch engagement on the 6-speed took awhile to get used to (as opposed to my S2000, which felt comfortable from day one). No rattles or squeeks at his point. What would I change? ... Read More

My 6 year old daughter mastered the 1-2 shift from the passenger side of my S2000 before I traded it a few weeks ago for the TL 6-speed. Now that I am joining the ranks of TL owners Saturday morning, I'll respond again: Smartkey access: Nice do-dad, but not a big deal in my opinion. You're right, I didn't compare the non-Nav TL to the non-Nav 330i. Primarily because I wouldn't pay $1,700 for the BMW unit, but I would (and am) paying $2,000+ for the TL's unit, which is the best in the industry. However, I stand by my point - the fact that the TL has more and better gizmos is nice, but not what I use in deciding to buy a car that ... Read More

I'm at $1,000 over invoice for a 6-speed Nav w/HPT that had to be ordered. I think the auto is a little easier to come by, so that may give you a little more bargaining room, at least back here in DC. Can you feel the 270 hp? Yes and no. I just came back from a second test drive of the 6-speed. The combination of the touchy clutch and drive by wire throttle does take some getting used to. I also pushed the car a little harder this time and the power below 4,000 rpm wasn't that impressive. After 4,000 rpm it kicks, but then the redline is only 6,800 rpm. Too bad Acura couldn't get it up to about 7,500 ... Read More

The "cost" side of the equation is relatively easy. According to figures in Edmunds, you can expect about $13.5k in trade in for your 2000 and, including taxes and tags, you'd be looking at something over $20k to trade up. Only you can decide what the "benefit" side of that equation is. For what it's worth, I looked into trading my 1995 Maxima at about the same time in its life ... Read More

I'm not sure how Edmund's calculates those costs, but I suggest that you ignore them. They were so far off on my 1995 Nissan Maxima and 2002 Honda S2000 as to be laughable. Sorry Edmunds, but you do so many things well, you ought to just drop that info from your site. What I do suggest is that you get the dealer to give you the maintenance schedule and prices for ... I respect those who make the choice of FWD over RWD if they feel more comfortable driving in rain & snow with FWD. However, a few comments / observations: (1) RWD, with stability control, LSD, etc. has significantly improved in recent years. It's still adviseable to get snow tires and rims, but the cost should be reasonable compared to the price of a premium car and the wear and tear saved ... Read More

I don't want to turn this into a TL vs. Maxima debate, but your emotional attachment for the TL is clearly clouding your objectivity and judgement. As an owner of a Honda S2000 and Isuzu Trooper, I think I have some claim to knowing both extremes of the "handling spectrum". I've also owned an Acura Integra and a Legend GS 6-speed, and consider myself a fan of Honda/Acura. I have NOT ... Read More

Your comparison of 2004 TL pricing to 1999 one makes no sense because you are comparing apples to oranges. Acura is moving TL upmarket with the introduction of 2004 model so it would be like comparing a 1995 VW Passat with 2003 one.
