New TSX commercial
Written by: rlonn1 on Jul 21, 2010 8:59:23 PM
I am sure many of you have seen the new TSX commercial where they have a room filled with car engines all running surrounding a canary in a bird cage. Then they turn on the Audio Noise Canceling speakers to show you how quiet it becomes. I know this first hand as my wife has a 2009 TSX, and it works like a bose noise canceling earphones, same principle! I am ... Read More

Re: Is the new Acura TL a magnet for accidents? [marco25]
Written by: rlonn1 on Jul 2, 2010 9:21:52 AM
Sorry to hear about this unfortunate situation. My 2010 TL is only 4 months old, and due to the superior breaking and steering control, I have been able to avoid 2 near miss accidents to date. I would not attribute this to the size of the car. One could argue that the car is so DAM attractive, that folks are looking at your car, not at the road. We all try ... Read More

Looks like another San Diego person on this site with a SH-AWD TL, Hello from East County and the fun roads of the Back Country to drive.. Your comment about the press and how they report cars is valid! Yesterday Consumer Report came out with its top 4 family sedans, and I was surprised to see that MPG, safety was not even a consideration, but rather VSA was,,, The had VW, ... Read More

Re: TL horsepower [bodble2]
Written by: habitat1 on Nov 11, 2005 5:59:25 AM
I guess we will just have to agree to disagree that "playing within the rules allowed" is all that we should expect from a "premium" company selling "premium" products. Mazda was required to restate the horsepower ratings of the RX8 (from 250 to 238) shortly after introduction, and they offered to repurchase sold units or give a $500 rebate at the buyers election. Honda/Acura was forced (and I mean forced) to ... Read More

We have a 2004 TL in anthracite/black purchased in May 2004. It now has 20,000 miles. Friends of ours have a 2004 TL in black/camel purchased in late 2003, now with 12,000 miles. Our car looks like new, inside and out. Theirs does not. Even when freshly washed, their black shows swirl marks and imperfections that are either not present, or nearly invisible, in our anthracite. On the inside, the camel ... Read More

Re: XM Radio [highender]

highender, Thanks, yes I did get a 2005 911S Cab. The deciding factor was being able to fit my two daughters in the back seat. Had we been childless, the Boxster S probably would have won out on price. But given that I had a "family" justification for the extra $40k, I must admit the 911S is a dream. Weather permitting, we will be going on a family pumpkin hunting trek ... Read More

Perhaps you should look at trading up to a BMW 550i via European Delivery. It has a "real" 360 horsepower, which should provide you with considerably more satisfaction than even a 390 (claimed) horsepower RL would. I just returned from a 900+/- mile long weekend trip with my 911, during the middle of which I drove my old 1995 Maxima for 30+/- miles to keep it loosened up. This morning, I ... Read More

Re: 270 HP is your answer... [kyfdx]
Written by: habitat1 on Dec 6, 2004 2:51:05 AM
With all due respect, 270 hp is not the answer, at least not for me. My point in posting my other experiences was to show that in every other car I've owned over the past 10 years, my "mixed" driving routine has produced actual mileage of approximately 10-15% above the EPA City estimate. In the case of the TL, the same exact "mixed" driving is producing actual mileage 15-20% BELOW the ... Read More

Re: TL vs. G35 [tomp]
Written by: habitat1 on Nov 21, 2004 3:43:17 AM
I considered both the G35 and TL. My conclusions were: The ONLY advantage the G35 has over the TL is the handling of RWD vs. FWD. And it is not a big difference. The G35 is NOT a BMW 330i, no matter what Infiniti marketing promotes. I actually thought the steering in the TL was crisper, although it can be affected by torque steer. The Acura TL navigation system - 8" ... Read More

Japanese seats
Written by: habitat1 on Oct 22, 2004 5:03:55 AM
My complaint on the TL isn't that the seats are too hard, but in spite of looking sporty, they are not as supportive and comfortable as any of the premium European brands. I would rate Volvo, BMW (sport seat option) and Mercedes (multi-contour option) as at least 2-3 rungs up the ladder from Acura. It's not just an Acura TL complaint: I have yet to sit in ANY Japanese sedan (or ... Read More

I generally appreciate constructive criticism and tend to give a lot myself, but in this case I'm going to send you back to the drawing (or thinkng) board more than Acura. (1) There are two AC plugs in my TL, no cigarette lighters. I keep my Bluetooth cell phone plugged into the center armrest and it's always charged and available. So what are you talking about? (2) Folding rear seats - ... Read More

I have a 2004 Tl and 1995 Nissan Maxima SE, both manual transmissions. As for the 2002/3 TL-S, the tranny problem alone would be enough to steer me clear of it. I know of at least two owners who are on their second replacements. Acura has covered them with an extended warranty and, I believe, loaner cars. But it is still a royal pain in the butt. As for the Maxima, ... Read More

mark, Would I gain any points with you if I mentioned that I have never, ever owned an automatic. Neither has my wife. And we are both over 45. My 6 year old daughter mastered the 1-2 shift from the passenger side of my S2000 before I traded it a few weeks ago for the TL 6-speed. Am I having deja vu or didn't you post this same list of suggestions several days ago?? Now that I am joining the ranks of TL owners Saturday morning, I'll respond again: Smartkey access: Nice do-dad, but not a big deal in my opinion. I'm coming from a 1995 Nissan Maxima that doesn't even have remote access or power seats. The TL offers remote access and automatic memory seat adjustment from ... Read More

You're right, I didn't compare the non-Nav TL to the non-Nav 330i. Primarily because I wouldn't pay $1,700 for the BMW unit, but I would (and am) paying $2,000+ for the TL's unit, which is the best in the industry. However, I stand by my point - the fact that the TL has more and better gizmos is nice, but not what I use in deciding to buy a car that ... Read More

Edmunds True Cost to Own = BS
Written by: habitat1 on Jan 6, 2004 5:27:18 AM
I'm not sure how Edmund's calculates those costs, but I suggest that you ignore them. They were so far off on my 1995 Nissan Maxima and 2002 Honda S2000 as to be laughable. Sorry Edmunds, but you do so many things well, you ought to just drop that info from your site. What I do suggest is that you get the dealer to give you the maintenance schedule and prices for ... FWD vs. RWD
Written by: habitat1 on Dec 7, 2003 11:52:11 PM
I respect those who make the choice of FWD over RWD if they feel more comfortable driving in rain & snow with FWD. However, a few comments / observations: (1) RWD, with stability control, LSD, etc. has significantly improved in recent years. It's still adviseable to get snow tires and rims, but the cost should be reasonable compared to the price of a premium car and the wear and tear saved ... Read More

I don't want to turn this into a TL vs. Maxima debate, but your emotional attachment for the TL is clearly clouding your objectivity and judgement. As an owner of a Honda S2000 and Isuzu Trooper, I think I have some claim to knowing both extremes of the "handling spectrum". I've also owned an Acura Integra and a Legend GS 6-speed, and consider myself a fan of Honda/Acura. I have NOT ... Read More

Your comparison of 2004 TL pricing to 1999 one makes no sense because you are comparing apples to oranges. Acura is moving TL upmarket with the introduction of 2004 model so it would be like comparing a 1995 VW Passat with 2003 one.

Acura 3.2 TL and 3.2 CL Type S vehicles

In looking for some data on the forthcoming 2004 TL sedan I found it quite amusing to review the discussions of various Acura fans regarding the normal design TL car with the 225 hp engine being "enough" or "more than adequate" which of course it is indeed, however it is clear that none of these well meaning folks have had one to one on hand experience with both vehicles, instead most ... Acura TL S Type Comparison
Written by: lfuron on Mar 26, 2001 9:08:16 AM
We have been looking for a new car for my wife for the last two weeks. Looked at Volvo S60 turbo (nice solid and fast but over $40K, BMW 325 (small back seat, low power, 330 well over $40K), Audi and Infinity I30 (both around $40K and neither had performance comparible to TL). BMW may have a very slight advantage in handling and braking but lack of power cancels it out. ... Read More
