2006 Acura RSX Type-S 2dr Hatchback (2.0L 4cyl 6M)
Review
Read any 2005 or 2006 car comparison between the Type-S (or Civic Si) and its competitors and the editors place the Acura (or Honda) in first. They've got it right. The Type-S, like myself is a Gemini: it's an excellent daily commuter when kept below 4,000 rpm or it can be a racer if pushed above 4,000 rpm. The suspension is a bit stiff making for a bumpy ride on anything but glass- smooth roads, but that's the price to pay for 0.88g cornering. Fit and finish are excellent. The heated sideview mirrors are an excellent touch and come in handy when coated with dew or frost. The 2nd/3rd gear grinding IS an issue but ONLY if the driver doesn't take care in ensuring the gear is fully engaged.
Favorite Features
Bose stereo (but see below), rear decklid spoiler, leather bucket seats, auto climate control, heated sideview mirrors, 16 cu. ft. cargo area, rear windshield wiper, 201hp engine, 6spd, effortless clutch, white-out dash cluster turns black and red at night, Acura status. Overall, the Type-S is great
Suggested Improvements
The Type-S needs better stock tires; the Michilen Pilot MXM4s are awful. Although the Bose sytem can get very loud, it can still use improvement especially with the subwoofer. Despite a great clutch and short-throw shifter, grinding should be a nonissue, but it is if you're not careful. That's it.
