MSRP
Written by: prophet2 on Oct 7, 2004 11:08:52 AM
People should remember that there have been some vehicles which even Edmunds deemed to have a TMV higher than MSRP. The most notable in recent years is the Honda Odyssey, which dealers often added ADM of several thousands. This held for over 3-4 years. I had no trouble paying MSRP for mine in 2001. My Odyssey EX was priced at $26.8K MSRP and had more features than the Toyota Siena XLE ... Read More

Our first Audi, in 1978, was followed by over two dozen more -- in November, 2000 I found a FedEx envelope on my front porch. In this FedEx Letter package was a letter and two round trip tickets to San Moritz Switzerland. The letter invited my wife and me to fly to Zurich, be picked up in an Audi A8 and escorted to St. Moritz. Fast forward, we took Mr. Hunt ... Read More

Re: Did Acura Need to Wait Until Now to Produce the All-New RL? [legendman]
Written by: varmint on Sep 14, 2004 3:21:02 PM
Honda did redesign the RL back around 2001 or 2002. They didn't like what the engineers/designers offered at that time. So they decided not to produce it. The car probably never made it to the sheetmetal stages. I'll wager it was a bunch of drawings and computer simulations. I read once that they canned the guy responsible for the project. I'm sure they could have produced a car in 2001 that ... Read More

Re: [nebraskaguy] Canadian pricing vs. US [gnarly] [canadacraig]
Written by: micartie on Sep 8, 2004 2:05:59 PM
I posted here a while ago when I first saw the RL Canadian pricing on the Canadiandriver wedsite. At C$69,500 (which works out to about US$53,500), the RL is approaching the likes of Lexus GS430 and Infiniti M45, both of which have V8 engines. I currently own a 2001 3.2CL Type S and was looking to move up to the new RL. However, at C$69,500, I am very tempted to consider ... Read More

I doubt the night vision (Honda showcased it first in the Dualnote prototype at 2001 Tokyo Motor Show) and LKAS (Lane Keep Assist) will make it to the RL. They will definitely be offered in Japan since the lesser models have it. Intelligent cruise control (something that we expected to see in 1999 TL since 1998 TL-X concept had it) will definitely be offered. I would like to see Acura offer ... Read More

Re: Aluminum diesels [rsholland]

Honda has started its diesel “run” with the 2.2-liter DOHC I-CTDi using aluminum and it is supposedly the lightest engine in its class (by at least 10 kg as “The Telegraph” below mentions it). But at 375 lb. (a number I obtained from another website, it is about 80 lb. heavier than the 2.2-liter DOHC VTEC engine that powered Prelude for a long time. Another website (also European source) mentions it ... Read More

I don’t see a point in using a DOHC layout for everything that SOHC does. It would make sense if the redline were to be pushed beyond 7000 rpm, as it would in NSX. For RL, that would be unnecessary. SOHC layout allows Honda to keep the engine package more compact and lighter (don’t be surprised to see if RL ends up having the best power to weight ratio for the ... Read More

Interesting "claim"

The new 300C engine 340HP 390 foot pounds of torque. And, as we all know diesel engines often have massive torque even if they have relatively normal HP. Acura and Honda are both currently (rumor) contemplating the complaints about their products -- which I have been told include "lack of fresh product" -- leading to the mean age of Honda buyers approaching the "danger" zone (and that would be what over ... 2001 Acura CL-S could do 0-60 in 5.8s. 2004 TL has done it as well. But thats not the end of it, is it? Based on early rumors, RL is expected to weigh around 3750 lb. Would be nice if it does. That would make it lighter than the current RL with a lot more power and features! I anticipate a 0-60 run of 6.5s, and thats not bad, because in ... Read More

AutoWeek article

Thought this would be a good read before AutoWeek removes it. Its funny Honda seems to resists at all costs before moving to a larger engine. Remember when Hondas wouldn't budge on 4-cylinders in their Accords. Eventually, they caved in and put in a V-6. I see the same with Acura resisting to go with a V-8. In which country does the MDX come with a 3.8L engine? As for the rest... I agree that the RL has been neglected. But I'm not sure tweaks would have made a big difference. Redesigning the RL in 2001 or 2002 would have certainly helped sales. The vehicle would have been competitive with some of the others in it's class. However, it would not have leap ahead. Is Increasing Tire Size a Problem?

Has anyone with a 2000 or older RL increased to the 225/55/16 size when they replaced their tires? If so, have you noticed any problems (e.g. rubbing, spedo incorrect, etc.)? Problem with 2001 RL

I recently brought my '01 RL into the dealer for a "popping" noise I was hearing from the right side of the car every time I applied and released the brakes. Initially, the service technician thought it was the ball-joints, so they replaced them. But this did not fix the problem. Then they thought it was the engine mount, so they replaced it. I think the noise factor in these cars is relative to what one is used to driving. I just traded my 2001 Lexus ES (8600 miles)in for a 2000 RL with 21,000 miles on an even swap. In my view, the RL is a much better overall driving experience than the 2001 ES, more responsive in handling, better ride quality, and most importantly more comfortable driver seat. I was reluctant to lease a 2001 because I considered it essentially the same as my 1997. This gets the TMV fined tuned for your area. I'm in the Midwest, Twin Cites metro, and the TMV for my area is $35,249. From that price, you deduct the incentive of $3,000 from ACURA. Acura RL 2000 vs TL 2001

We visited an Acura dealer in Phoenix to look at a MDX. We ended up test-drive a RL 2000 and TL 2001 model as well.
