2012 Acura MDX 4dr SUV AWD (3.7L 6cyl 6A)

Great SUV on the fundamental side. Runs great, has enough power and handles like a small car. But the elecronics inside are sub par. Even non luxury (Ford) has better electronics. For example the screen is not touch screen and resolution is poor. There are duplicate buttons for every on screen function. In other words, navigation screen and the functions available there including audio are a duplicate of existing buttons resulting in cluttered dashboard. Rearview camera is cheap and has poor resolution. Doesn't work well in dark and during rain. Almost monochrome. Wish the side mirrors could be folded from inside. Its a wide SUV and I need to fold the mirrors to park it inside the garage.

Favorite Features

Power and handling. Really roomy inside.

Suggested Improvements

Improve electronis. Make the screen touchscreen. Make it high resolution. This screen looks like a PC monitor from the nineties. Improve rearview camera. Camera doesn't beep by design if there are objects in close proximity. I'm told this is by design. It doesn't make any sense.

I will take a single rotary control dial like the one on the MDX over a touchscreen any day. I am an engineer and somewhat of an expert on motions. Touching any "button" on a touchscreen is a high control motion - meaning it requires the use of the eyes for the position of your finger to the screen...you cannot keep your eyes on the road and do this. With a dial you can just glance at the screen - and for frequent functions this isn't required after you have learned the motions. Also, while I agree the rest of the MDX control tower is busy and has several redundant functions that are already on the screen, if the screen ever has an issue everything still works. Ever talked to anyone that had Ford MyTouch? You can't control anything - including heat/air, heated seats, radio, etc. if there is a software problem - and there have been many.
