This happened to me shortly after I brought my Acura MDX 2002 Touring Edition. I brought it in 2006 and after having it for 3 months the transmission went out on me on the interstate without any kind of warning or anything. Lucky for me I purchased the extended warranty so it was covered. I was told by my mechanic that the MDX and TL have known transmission problems. Which upset ... Read More

I have a 2002 MDX bought new. After 5 years and only 30,000 miles, the transmission started shuddering when shifting, and Acura replaced it (rebuilt it) under warranty. Now, at about 65,000 miles, it's happening again. I just called the dealer to see if Acura was covering these under warranty even though it's out of warranty, and the service writer told me that transmissions on the MDX are not a recurring ... SB-06-050 on MDX! What does this warranty extension cover?
Written by: dmortaz on Aug 29, 2011 2:50:26 PM
I came across Service Bulletin : SB-06-050 on the NTSB board when I searched for 2004 MDX problems and this service bulletin talks about "Warranty Extensions" for 2002-2006 models as part of a class action law suite settlement. This one was filled on May 09, 2008. But I am not sure if Acura folks are honoring this settlement, since it does NOT specifically talk about "transmission" problems in the "summary" section ... 2002 MDX transmission failure130,000 miles
Written by: averagefool on Nov 9, 2010 9:53:17 PM
The transmission failed and the dealer quoted $4,400 to replace with a 3 yr 36,000 mile warranty rebuilt transmission. After negotiation with Acura for an out-of-warranty subsidy, we settled at a payment of $2,650. In the negotiations, I said: -the transmission was flawed from the factory -Acura knew this -Acura had paid for others out-of-warranty -I had been in touch with class action lawyers I hope this helps somebody else.

Dodge Grand Caravan, 205,000 miles, no issues. Acura MDX, 89,000 miles, THREE TRANSMISSIONS.
