hello: I am on my 3rd 1990-92 Integra. Mine idles at a consent 750, never any issues with backfire. As far as the coolant, sounds like a head gasket to me. We did have a GSR that belched alot of white smoke, had a rip off CT Acura dealer take the engine apart, they stated it was the pistons(it was not, they were not fouled or damaged in any way) sealed ... How do you know that your water pump is fine? You don't mention as to whether or not you checked and/or replaced the engine coolant thermostat, or the engine coolant temperature sensor, which turns your cooling fan on and off, as needed. Did you hear your cooling fan running at all? Also, there are fuses and/or relays involved in the cooling fan circuit, as well as an 'after-run' timer I believe. ... Read More
my car was over heating a month ago, and it sat in my drive way like that up until 2 nights ago, we replaced the coolant line, put oil in it, anti freeze, transmission stop slip, radiator stop leak, and it sounded good in my drive way, idiling was low, not as much smoke in the back. we then took it for a test drive and sure enough it was over ... Does your "check engine" light stay on or off after turning ignition on? If it stays on its your grounds. This is an issue that I have not found very many Acura dealers or owners know about. If you have questions contact me at jeffcinys@gmail.com. BTW I believe the fuel pump is under the rear passenger seat, drivers side.
Try this... before you try to start the car, just turn the key to the ON position. You should hear the fuel pump running. If you do hear it, then try to start the car. If it starts after the "fuel pump trick" I'd wager the pressure regulator that keeps pressure in the fuel line (like overnight so there's fuel at the engine to start up in the morning) is leaking ... Hello 1. all liquid levels are great 2. believe starter works 3. spark plugs are in great condition engine turns over but does not start; therefore, I believe fuel is not getting to the engine. Spark plugs are sparking and all else is well. Not sure what may be wrong, please any guidance is greatly appreciated. I am mechanically inclined and am an egineering student. I have had this problem in my 1991 GS and now a 1990 LS. I do get the "check engine" light on at time, usually on a warm day after the car has been running for awhile as well as cold days when the engine is warmed up. I have not tried changing the relay, but I have found that the butterfly valve that is on the end of the throttle ... Read More
It could be a fast idle valve. I don't have a 90 service manual, but look in section 11 of 94 service manual, trouble shooting section. It will help you to find the problem. http://tech.hybridgarage.com/tech/manuals/94%20acura%20integra%20service%20manua- l.pdf
When the car is in park, the car will stall sometimes too. As for the belt, its fine.
Is the water pump belt too loose?
So you have personally witnessed both fans running at the same time with the A/C on? Then you have to go to the next obvious culprit - the radiator. Your car and your friend's are both old cars at this point - if these are original radiators, they may be so plugged up at this point that they are just barely doing the job most of the time. As soon as ... Read More
I do have two cooling fans...Thing is they seem to work fine. The A\C fan comes on when I turn the a\c on yet the car will still show signs of overheat---on high way,city.. but even faster when I come to a stop in heavy trafic...... Oh by the way thanks for the help in moving my question to the correct place.. I am new to this and would take any ... Read More
I can't remember exactly on the 2nd-gen Integra, but many of the older Japanese cars had two electric cooling fans, one that runs off the temp sensor and a second one that runs all the time when the A/C is on. If that second fan has quit, the car will overheat all the time whenever you use the A/C, but will run without a problem the rest of the time. Might ... Read More
The posts have now been moved to the place you suggested - thanks!!
Does the A/C appear to work correctly? If the AC compressor is failing it could be causing excessive load on the engine. Is there someplace you could get your air conditioner diagnosed FOR FREE ? One other thing what type of drving speed does it occur? idle, city , highway or doesn't matter. I know you are new to Edmunds forums and that is why gbrozen and I tried to answer ... Read More
Thanks for your input qbrozen... Thing is on my friends 91 LS he removed the thermostat and it continued to do the same thing. So he then replaced it with a new one. Same problem continued. He changed the Coolant temp Sensor to the left side of the engine right under the distributor and two other sensors to the back of the engine(Not sure of their names, will find out)... but ... Well, first off, that's not your A/C fan running when you shut off the car. That's the engine cooling fan. The reason it continues to run, probably, is because the car is running too hot. There's something wrong with the cooling system. Could be the thermostat, the temp sensor, or the fan itself. I'm not well versed in your particular car, but I suspect the thermostat.
I have a 90 Acura Integra and I am having some trouble with the A\C. 1) When I turn off the car the A\c fan stays on and runs down my battery. There is s sticker that says the fan may stay on for about 15 mins but it runs for longer than that. What can I do to fix this problem? 2)When I turn the A\C on while driving or ... Read More
Would it be hard to convert my 1990 acura integra GS to a manual transmission? and if its not hard around how much cash am i lookin at to do th is. if anyone could help reply that would be great. Thanks
Hey i need help, i just boughbt an 1990 acura integra gs and i want to make it look cool i need some tips on what to get. i want to get rims air intake and dc sport headers. i also would like tips on what to buy for the engine to make it fly.
is NO, they DON'T make cars like your '90 any more! Emissions standards, platform sharing, and a million tiny tweaks in search of that extra quarter point of fuel economy have taken care of that. Acura as a brand has grown up a lot since 1990 too, so the cars they offer have changed in mission to be a bit more "sophisticated", which equates to less visceral drivng feel. Drive by ... Read More
could be a vacuum leak or something to do with the fuel/air delivery (clogged injectors, relay, etc.). Idle problems have a huge range of possibilites. It could even be your TPS sensor.
No, it shakes when the car is stopped, like at a red light or something. it has been shaking even worse and it hasnt been runing right lately have any cluse on what it could be? Also when it gets cold out the keys get stuck in the ignition of the car do you know what that could be from?
Thanks, bdog for the suggestion. I'll give it a look. I guess I am a little concerned about staying small b/c of the saftey factor, but not so concerned that I want a big gas guzzler. I feel that the handling of my Integra & especially its fast braking has saved me from several accidents.
If you're car shakes every time you brake my guess is your rotors are done. You can try to resurface them if they're not too eaten up... otherwise you should just upgrade/replace them. If your car is a manual and you dont want to be constantly resurfacing your rotos I recommend NOT braking in neutral. Yes, you heard me :D . Just leave your car in gear when you're braking and ... Ha! Between the time that I posted and the time I viewed your response i came to the same conclusion....15x6 over 14x5.5. I hadnt even thought about the sidewalls let alone the availability of tires! I actually talked to my motor guy who had a chance to wear both and he said he definately felt more comfertable with the 15x6s. Than I did a reality check... If Honda put the 14x5.5 ... Read More
You're not alone by any means! My 1990 GS does NOT like to go into third from fourth (manual) but if I pop it into 2nd from fourth (without letting go of the clutch) and than shift into 3rd it goes inwithout skipping a step. I've heard of 3rd gear grinding and many other 3rd gear related problems with almost all integras 1990-2001. I'm not too worried because I wont be ... Read More
Hi Slajjs -- I've come to the same conclusion after reviewing the "transmission traumas" forum on this site, although I'm very curious to know what the tranny problem is given that the problem with both our cars sounds exactly the same. I thought I might call Acura Headquarters myself, even though my dealer claims to have spoken with them the last time they attempted to fix the car. My dealer estimated ... Read More
I'm looking for any information or advice. I have a 1990 Acura Integra 2DR Hatch, which I purchased new and have taken good care of. It has about 118k miles. For the first 10 minutes or so of driving the car, the automatic transmission will not shift from 2nd to 3rd. The car revs at 3000 RPM ... Read More
When I got laid off from my airline job I sold my wife's 3 year old Contour SVT. It had 89K on it and was really nice. no paint work, or ripped interior. air blew cold and everything worked. ... Read More
Hello, First off I'd like to know the specs on this "Vtech" cordless phone; how fast can it dial?, how much does it weigh?, etc. Next, I recently bought a 1990 Acura Integra GS 2D w/ ABS. I love this car! It's affordable and very fun to drive. I want to "finish off the handling" but I'm not really sure of the best way to go about it... Here's what I ... Read More
Hello all, I just recently found this forum, and I thought I would share with you my experience with my girlfriend’s Integra. She has a 1990 Integra (stick shift) with 197K miles on it. She replaced the clutch and the muffler at about 130K miles (the new muffler now has a lifetime warranty), the alternator – just last year at about 185K miles, ... Read More
I would have to disagree. '94 Integras didn't have too many problems. I have friends with '94 RS, LS & GSRs with 100K mi. and more and have had very good luck with them. Expect to get "near" Civic reliability (I own both Civic & Integra). Whatever the reliability is, Integras are always above average and the '94 models are no different. Acura/Honda cars are famous for reliability. The only thing ... Read More
First of all...the guy talking about the GTI forgot to mention that he was talking about km/hr and not mi/hr. 100 km/hr is about 62 mi/hr. 9 seconds is pretty quick but not super fast. I'm a junior in college. This year I bought a 1990 Acura Integra LS hatchback for $4200, with 119k miles (about avg). It gets 26 mi/ga city and 32/hwy. I avg about 28 mi/ga. I believe ... Read More
Achaing, I own a 1990 Acura Integra LS 5-speed (116,000 miles), also. I'm the original owner, so I know everything that has been done to the car. Make sure the timing belt has been changed.
