Acura CL Transmission Problems

  • Transmission Problem 2003 CL

Written by: drcitrus on Mar 24, 2005 8:43:46 AM

Acura has extended the warranty on the A/T and torque converter for all 2001 & 2002. Whether a 2003 CL is covered depends on the VIN. (See: Service Bulletin 02-027 dated 1/21/05 titled Warranty Extension : 3.2TL and 3.2CL Automatic Transmission (supercedes 02-027 dated 9/15/03) I have a 2003 CL that I purchased in August 2002. I know this message is late, since you posted last year, but to answer your question about CL transmissions, Acura gave all CL-S models a transmission warranty until 100K miles. It covers all of the latest body style cars ('00 or '01 was first year?). I received the notice from Acura.

Had tranny recall done on the '02 CL-P a couple weeks ago, they installed the oil jet kit (had 27,500 miles), had the 30k service done early. Also, they replaced the driver's window regulator under warranty, which fixed the noises mentioned above. said they hadn't replaced many trannies...maybe/maybe not. Had a very "well loved" 02/30k RSX as loaner (had to have regulator shipped in overnite). service guy looked at me like ... Read More

  • CL 6 speed problems

Written by: trains on Apr 14, 2004 9:52:08 AM

I have a 2003 CL with the 6 speed and am not happy. There were problems with the trans since day one - the 6 speed was rebuilt at 8500 miles - Acura does not offer a rebuilt, so the existing unit has to be serviced. The car was hard to shift and pops out of first gear. The rebuild was worse then the original. The car is back at the ... Read More

  • Is it wise to buy a used Acura CL 3.2 Type-S Coupe?

    Written by: excl2005 on Feb 12, 2004 6:27:41 PM

This may sound like a "no-brainier," but I'm trying to decide whether to buy the 2001 Acura CL 3.2 Type-S Coupe or the 2002 Honda Accord EX V6 Coupe. I'm also aware of the 2001 Acura CL's defective transmission and that Acura has extended its drive train warranty from 70K to 100K. However, I've also read the horror stories from Acura CL owners going through two or three transmissions and not ... Read More

  • Tranny Troubles, My 2 cents...

Written by: alarmpro on May 29, 2003 6:51:11 PM

My 2001 CL-S bought in March 2000 VIN 2667, was totally trouble free until I noticed a hesitation when shifting from 2 to 3 in auto mode. I took it to Acura and was told I would be getting a new tranny. In reality the old tranny was shifting from 2 to 4 and skipping 3. I was given a 2002 TL-S loaner and the tranny was replaced in 4 days. ... Read More

I also just started to notice some slipping from gear to gear on my 2002 CL Type S at 40,000 miles. I see that Acura extended the warranty to 70,000 miles on transmissions for this model, most likely because of this. The problem seems to be that it stays in gear too long and then jumps up or downshifts to the next gear. I'm starting to think about trading it in ... Read More

Thanks fastdriver, I'll keep that in mind & stay away from pot-holes. I live in Fort Worth TX & we get hail-storms during spring season. Unfortunately after I had the car for the weekend, I found a couple of spots where hail might have hit the car. • Foglights - 2002 vs 2003

    Written by: mjc440 on Feb 1, 2003 6:09:46 PM

Does anyone out there know why Acura pulled the foglights from the 2003 CL? The 2001-02 CLs had foglights - the 2003 has just a blank space there. The 2003 TL still has them.
