Hi, I have a 1999 Acura CL 3.0 and its transmission just died. I just drove this for 130K miles and provided this is a Japanese car I am shocked to see this issue. I will never by an Acura again.
I have been dealing with exactly the same issue on my 2001 Acura CLS. Did the recall gig, then several months later had to take it back in when it was under warranty because the transmission was slipping. They acknowledged that they got it to slip but told me I would have to keep bringing it back because they had to make it slip three times. But they said I had ... Read More
There are several models in 1997 to 2001 and possibly others that are having unusual transmission problems with low mileage and regular upkeep. My Acura is a 1999 CL 2.3 136k, I'm the original owner and have had regular maintenance done. The car was babied for it's entire life, looks new inside and out, yet has a transmission that surges at start and stop. While researching the issue it appears Honda ... Read More
Well, this is my saga with the 2001 Cl. Had a new transmission placed under recall in 7/03 (dealership told me it was a new tranny because acura never uses old parts), my car had 28,000 mi. 8/11/08, 2nd transmission is shot with 65,000 mi on my car (37,000 mi on 2nd tranny). Also, that the car had a number of other issues including broken engine mounts (also replaced in 7/03. ... Read More
Hi - I own a 2001 CL and just replaced the transmission for $3,500+. Purchased new, the warranty shows 114,000 miles or 7 years. The dealer would not honor the warranty even though I have just 60,000 miles to date on the car because of the car's age. Did you have a warranty issue? Do you know if there is a way to get Acura to respond to honoring the mileage ... Read More
Today after I had just driven 240 miles away from home, my 2001 Acura CL's transmission went from working fine, to completely broken. Luckily, it went out two miles away from the Acura dealership (or could it be that my car was sneakily designed to break down within range of an Acura dealership.. hrmm..), so I slowly made it there while holding up rush hour traffic and learned it's going to ... I have a 2001 3.2 CL with around 135,000 miles on it. A few months ago I had my brakes checked. At the time, the dealer told me that I needed to have my rotors reshaped, but told me my brake pads were fine. (I thought at the time this was odd since the rotors really shouldn't warp unless my brake pads were worn). A couple months later, my brake warning ... Read More

I have two different next-door neighbors (either side of my house) with Acura V-6s (one is a 2000 TL and the other is a 2001 CL). One has over 100k miles (TL), and the other has 81,000 miles (CL) and both are on original trannies. Not ALL Acura's have transmission troubles. BTW, in the "CL" family also resides a 2004 TSX, also trouble free (2.4L engine from same family as my ... Read More
My wife has a 2001 CL with 13,500 miles. The car is in excellent shape. We are looking for a new car. We are finding the CL has no trade in value. I have no problems with the car, but am wondering if I should sell it before extended trans warranty expires. Any opinions ... Read More

sukinsyn: Dude, you are lucky. I am an owner of a 2001 CL Type S (which I really love), however, today I nearly crashed as my car (with my Mom inside) shifted from fifth at about 65 to second (I think). Acura has extended the warranty on the A/T and torque converter for all 2001 & 2002. Whether a 2003 CL is covered depends on the VIN. My CL-S (now traded in for an '04 TL) got about 19 mpg in pure city driving, using imperial gallons. So I think that would translate to about 15 - 15.5 mpg using US gallons. So your 14 mpg is a little low, but not too far off. Maybe you have a heavy foot.
I have a 2001 CL in Monterey Blue Pearl. I have never seen another CL in this color. I am very happy with the car. I only have 9,500 miles on it. Only complaint is I only get about 14 mpg in city. I detail the car once a month. This color really shines.
I have an 2001 Acura CL Type-S with 62,000 miles on it. I've been having problems with my navigation system recently. After reading countless stories of tranny problems and rotor replacements, I'm going with the 2003 Honda Accord EX, V6 coupe. Why buy a used 2001 Acura CL 3.2 with all its inherent problems, when I can get a used 2003 Honda Accord EX, V6 coupe with none for the same price? This is my rationale. ~D~
Thanks motokichi for the help. Yeah, I called back the Acura dealership with the three Acura CL 3.2s, each with 30K (+) miles on them, and he said "they all have rebuilt transmissions with new clutch paks," whatever that means. I've contacted two Acura dealerships in my town about their 2001 Acura CL 3.2s in stock and this model’s well-known, defective transmission problem. Both dealerships have stated that their 2001 Acura CL 3.2s have new transmissions. However, I never did follow up with the question as to whether these new transmissions were temporary, stopgaps or totally redesigned transmissions that fixed the original problem. My worse fear is that these are rebuilt ... Read More

Actually, the new Accord coupe is right up there with the CL-S in price despite the CL having 20 more hp. I think Acura simply is the Buick division of Honda and as such, is better at selling 4 doors to businessman types. To leekva and basset3, Sadly, it looks like there won't be a 2004 CL, and that 2003 may well be the last of it. I had a 2001 CL-S try me in my 2000 Mustang GT last night. Although both cars have 260hp, the American musclecars have more torque and better gearing. I pulled away from him steadily the whole time, although it wasn't exactly a huge trouncing. These new Acuras are the first to actually provide some truly impressive high end power. I might look into one next year. The tangerine paint was a ... Read More

For anyone interested in purchasing a 2001 CL in Cincinnati, Ohio, I just purchased a 2001 CL-S non-nav with splash guards and wheel locks for $29,300. from Columbia Acura. MSRP was $31,010. They have about 15 or so in stock. Salesman was Josh Eger. He was very fair and professional and I would recommend giving him a call if your interested in buying.
Hello everyone, i am from the Sanfrancisco Bay area. I was just wondering if anyone from this area has bought a 2001 acura 3.2 CL. I bought a new 2001 CL Type S. What's special about this purchase is that I am a salesperson for Tischer Acura. I attended a meeting today for Acura and it was so funny that most of us were driving the S Type however I was the only salesman who owned it. Most were driving them as demo's. I live in Baltimore and commute to Laurel and I can not stop ... Read More
davejohn and the rest of you, About purchase price. I'll tell you my situation here outside of Philadelphia. Originally, I was going to lease the 2001 3.2 CL. With $1000 down, 15,000 miles a year for 36 months, the dealer offered $469 a month. I then waited (as you should) and I got him down to only 429 a month. After more contemplating, I decided that buying would be the smarter ... Read More
Hey yall! Im 15 years old, and i just bought my very own brand new 2001 Acura 3.2 CL! I've only had it for a month now, and i havent experienced any major problems with it. One tiny little problem was that the plastic parts inside the car (that is, the little things that go under the seats, or the little pieces that open and close storage compartments, etc.) feel cheap ... I feel for you, bro! At least mine hasn't started rattling (yet). It just ticks me off big time to pay this much for a car and end up with GM or Chrysler quality. I've vented and ranted at Acura 2001 CL -- Part 2 also.
What fit and finish??? This has been a common problem with 2001 CL models. The only misalignment the dealer was able to improve [not fix] on my CL-S was the alignment of the hood which was too far forward and overhanging the bumper at the front. My car has most of the issues you refer to plus the tunk is misaligned somewhat [not as bad as the front,] the passenger's door ... Read More
