Internet's Leading Automotive Information Resource Announces Innovative EdmundsLIVE Cross-Country Tour
LOS ANGELES, May 12, 2000 - Edmunds.com (http://www.edmunds.com), the Web's leading consumer resource for unbiased automotive information, today announced the summer launch of EdmundsLIVE, a seven-city event where consumers can test-drive cars, talk with industry experts, and experience all things automotive in a relaxed, non-sales-driven environment. The first-of-its-kind tour will kickoff in Atlanta, GA in July 2000 and will culminate in Los Angeles, CA in September 2000. Other cities on the tour include: Miami, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Englishtown, NJ, and San Francisco.
"In 1994 Edmunds led the way by providing consumers with comparative pricing and vehicle specs online, but up until now, there has not been a convenient way to evaluate and test-drive these vehicles," said Britt Johansson, director of consumer events at Edmunds.com. "EdmundsLIVE will give consumers the opportunity to physically evaluate and test-drive various makes and models in a pressure-free, comfortable, and entertaining setting."
At EdmundsLIVE, consumers will be able to test-drive and compare more than 50 of the industry's most popular vehicles from sedans to minivans to SUVs. EdmundsLIVE will also allow consumers to go online, get the best price on insurance, secure financing, locate a dealership, or pursue direct purchase of a vehicle. The event, which has been created to extend the online mission of Edmunds.com to a "live" physical setting, is expected to draw more than 65,000 participants in seven cities, expanding its already loyal consumer base of more than 1.3 million unique visitors a month.
"EdmundsLIVE is one of many upcoming initiatives that demonstrates how Edmunds is clearly differentiating itself from other players in the automotive Internet space," said Peter Steinlauf, president and CEO of Edmunds.com. "By extending the Edmunds.com model to include a physical presence, we are able to reinforce our commitment to consumers by giving them even more tools to make car shopping easier."
Edmunds.com has expanded its site to support EdmundsLIVE at http://www.edmunds.com/edmundslive.This is the only place to reserve a time slot to attend an EdmundsLIVE event. Online registrants submit the city where they would like to participate and the preferred vehicles they are most interested in test-driving. As time slots fill up, they will no longer be available on the site. The cost to attend the event is $15 per adult (18 and over). Due to limited space, consumers are advised to register early.
The EdmundsLIVE tour will visit seven cities:
- Atlanta (Atlanta Motor Speedway) July 7-9
- Miami (Gulfstream Race Track) July 21-23
- Washington, D.C. (Fed Ex Field) August 4-6
- Chicago (Chicago Motor Speedway) August 11-13
- Englishtown, NJ (Raceway Park) August 31-September 4
- San Francisco (Golden Gate Field) September 15-17
- Los Angeles (Hollywood Park) September 23-29
